I think Howard Johnsons would be the closest to what you are looking for since it is an actual HOtel with indoor corridors. The rest are MOtels with outside access to your rooms. However, I am a hotel snob as well and I LOVE the Candy Cane Inn. It's NOT your usual motel. The grounds are gorgeous; you'd swear you were in Hawaii as it is so covered in hanging baskets of flowers allllll around the ENTIRE building and lush gardens lining the pool and check in building. It has a charming cobblestone parking lot and many of the rooms have been redone and have hardwood floors (possibly fake wood, I've only been in carpeted rooms) and they all have nice plantation shutters on the large window. The shower and tub are separate from the counter and sink for ease of getting ready. I've only stayed in standard rooms and they aren't huge, but they are big enough for my family of four. They do offer two other categories of rooms that are both larger, including a premium room where they will bring you your breakfast and turn down your beds. There is a mini fridge, coffee maker, iron/ironing board, a safe, and of course TV. The wood is light, the bedding is super comfy and is the typical white duvet with just a pop of color with a throw at the end. The staff is lovely, there is free parking and free breakfast, and there are three convenience stores right next door for bottled water, sunscreen, aspirin, snacks, whatever. However you would have on clue these stores are there because you are in the flowering bubble of Candy Cane where all you see are flowers, flowers, flowers. The hotel has a tiny gift shop as well. Big plus is it has a free shuttle that runs every half hour. The walk is ten minutes down the palm tree studded path and is on the same side as Disney. In fact Candy Cane is directly in front of Cars Land in California Adventure! You can ask for a fireworks facing room if you wish and watch the fireworks from your balcony.
Grand Californian is just a dream hotel for me and will only happen if someone else pays for it! Rooms run at LEAST $400 a night, but typically are in the $600 range.
