Very strange and conflicting feelings...

My cousin ( though Ive never met her) emailed me today because she is doing geneaolgy on our family.

It seems so strange to me, this girl of 20 that Ive never met, she is my daddy's ( much younger) half-sisters daughter. It was funny, the email is so formal. Its the first Ive ever heard from her. I exchange cards with her mom every year but that is as far as it goes. She is in Michigan and sometimes that seems like a whole other world from Idaho.

She sent me a link to a website shes been working on so I went, totally unprepared for what I would find.

I have pictures of some of my family on that side but not many. There were so many names I didnt even recognize. Yet here they are staring at me and I find myself thinking " WOW thats my nose!" or " Yep she has the Nelson eyes"

Its rather disconcerning, really.


I am learning so much about my family and for some reason its all of sudden very important to me.


Anyway, Im just trying to sort though all these feelings that caught me by surprise so I thought Id bounce some of them off of you guys. Youre always good for some insight

My mom's family is pretty big. Years back we went to Texas for her brother's funeral. While there, the family had a huge reunion. All I could do was look around at all these people and think...they're relatives! I could have passed them on the street and never knew that! It was too weird. That was my first and only trip to Texas. I have cousins and cousins and cousins I don't know. LOL!
