**This is a sad story**

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4514346/

This occurred not far from where I live, but the location is immaterial, how could this happen anywhere today? A young person dying as such, amid filth, in what, from the outside, looks so normal? And with 6 other children around, some of older ages? Some stories I just can not comprehend. :(

I couldn't even read the whole thing...
you are so right Dan - how in this day ang age could something like this happen!

Goes to show you that you never know what is going on inside a house (the outside in the picture is obvioulsy no indication of the nightmare inside in)

"Involuntary" manslaughter?????

As Dante would put it, there is a special circle of hell reserved for that mother. Sounds like that family just had an absolute and total breakdown.

Oh my goodness. I couldn't finish it either. My 2 year-old weighs 22 lbs. and my pediatrician said it wouldn't hurt her to gain a pound or two at her last check-up. :( Really sad stuff.

Oh, this is so sad. We have an ongoing case here in NJ of a family that adopted a few boys and them proceeded to starve them. Luckily they were found and are now being helped. I have to believe this mother is insane because I can't fathom any other explanation.

I heard about this one th enews... so very very sad :(

This is horribly, horribly sad. We lived in Cary for 2 years, and it amazes me that something like this happened there. It's amazing that a human let another human suffer in such a way without another thought. What is wrong with people?

There was just a story in the Milwaukee area where a mother hadn't fed her toddler in 4 days. He of course died. It is stories like these that make you want to track down the parents and give them some of their own medicine. You just really have to believe that somewhere down the line, they will be punished.

Absolutely awful. You ask a good question Dan.

And it does happen and we're are seeing more of it. Like CEDmom spoke of. That was and is a big story around these parts.

Your question is being asked way too much lately. :(

Heard this on the radio last night and I was floored. My almost 2 yr old weighs about that and our pede would also like to see her put on a few pounds.

I also read in the paper today about the woman in Utah who refused to have a c-section because of the scar and one of her twins was stillborn. They are charging her with murder as well.

The poor little guy is in a much better place now.

I feel so helpless when I read something like this. And yes, there was an incident here in Vermont not long ago where the same thing happened. Fortunately, the children did not die but a neighbor saw one of the children outside going through their garbage cans for food. It was a teenager who was around 57 lbs or so.

I pray that mother gets what she deserves.

Saw this on WGN this morning too Dan. I was shocked, made me think about the boy with CP who's parent a physician dropped him off at the hospital saying that he couldn't take care of him anymore.

At least that boy was not starved to death. But shouldn't a physician know better. I can't in anyway imagine harming my DS with special needs. In fact it is the just the opposite I am way too over protective as far as he is concerned.

The whole thing just turns my stomach. So sad.

This is horrifying. It seems every day now there are more shocking stories like this one. Just this week alone there was also the story of the mother who put two babies in cement and the other who refused a C-section and gave birth to a stillborn.

To allow your child to starve and live in conditions like this one is inhumane. All of the remaining kids will need lots of therapy too.

Ft.Lauderdale area.....a Mother starved her 3 month old baby, and buried him in a field not too far from where she lived.:( She has 4 other children, and they are in foster care now.:o
