We are currently on the 3-day (looking out at Castaway Cay before departure right now).

There was a death on board the ship yesterday just before we were due to leave Nassau. A crewmember told us it was a male who died in 5xxx with other family in 5xxy.

The body was removed about 7pm, and transferred to an ambulance on the pier where it stayed for about 2 hours while family, DCL officers, the 2 doctors and nurse, and Bahamian officials stood nearby. The doctors occasionally went in and out of the ambulance with gloves on and clipboards in hand.

Around 845p the bodied was transferred from a DCL stretcher to one belonging to the ambulance. I was amazed at the number of people with children who were lined-up on deck 5 looking over the railing at the spectacle. A Carnival ship was docked next to us, and there were at least 100 people on various decks observing the episode. Very surprising given how visible the body was at times.

The DCL officers appeared to be very efficient and compassionate, and 2 uniformed crew remained behind in Nassau with the family. Tragically there were a couple very young children with them. An officer brought stuffed animals to the kids shortly before the family was first driven off in golf carts from the dock.

Finally at about 9pm, 2 Bahamian police officers entered the ambulance, and drove away with the body. Several DCL crewmember in yellow jumpsuits carried the empty stretcher back on board, and the Wonder cast off at about 915.

Tried hard to enjoy pirate night and Castaway, but knowing what happened to the poor family has really put a damper on my trip.

Blessings to the family of 5xxx & 5xxy.

My prayers are with this family. I hope they had cruise insurance, I am sure this will be a costly event for them as well as the most painful memory I could ever imagine for the poor children.

Hope you can enjoy the rest of the cruise, though. Hugs..

bless them, unfortunately this is a fact of life and it sucks, my heart goes out to them, please try to celebrate your life everyday as life is too short:littleangel:

How very tragic and as Malaguti said do try to enjoy life each and everyday because we just never know! Bless you for being so compassionate and do try to enjoy the time you have left on the Wonder!

So sad...my heart breaks for the family:sad1:

Last year when we were @ Castaway Cay a child was air lifted by a medivac helicopter from the island and flown to Miami Children's hospital. My husband was sitting on the verandah when the helicopter came roaring by. I can't even imagine how families handle any sort of tragic event while on a ship.

Prayers to the family...how sad. :sad2:

I don't see a room 5182 or 5184 on the deck plans... :confused3

How sad. Nice to know DCL is compassionate. I'm sure it is hard for the crew too. May the rest of the trip be uneventful.

Prayers for the family..

& I'm sure that Disney did the best they could to help the family.. :grouphug:

Very sad....to much sadness this week...
It happened to us last year...also:guilty:

yes its sad. i doubt that 5182 and 5184 are actual room numbers they are not going to give the room number out that someone died in. i could be wrong i will have to go look it up to see if they are actual room numbers.

Don't think of it as sad... they got to enjoy themselves with their family in their last days. I work at Disney and have heard stories about the Make a Wish Foundation kids that come in. One of my fellow cast members told me about a little girl who came and was so happy during her stay. During the trip she passed away tho. It was a sad time but her family told my fellow cast member how happy they were she was able to enjoy those last moments. So think of the good times they had together!

Interesting observation....and correct. Those room numbers do not exist.

Actually, I never noticed before this but the number on deck 5 is crazy. The numbers are in 5000, and 5100, 5500 and 5600's. They could all be in the 5000's because there aren't even 50 cabins on that deck

Ebunny is right and we are a MAW family with a Disney cruise. Personally if it happened while on one of the happiest places on earth I would be ecstatic. My family would be too. I want to die happy and my family does too.

I'm glad that the OP got the room numbers wrong. I would hate to think that someone who knew this family discovered the deaths by reading the OP's post. Very slim chance I know, but it still seemed wrong.
