Very random question about carry-on luggage

We're thinking about taking a short last minute trip in a week and 1/2 and will be flying through allegiant. To avoid checked baggage fees, we want to only take carry ons. My youngest is still on formula, so I'm wondering if anyone would balk if we put the powder in a big Ziplock bag. I don't want it to look like we're trying to smuggle drugs. :lmao: But I don't want to bring the can and take up precious luggage space.

Instead of taking the can or putting in a plastic bag, I would put the right amount in bottles and take it in its dry form that way.

I would, but we use Playtex drop-ins, and we only have a couple since we use the disposible liners. Plus, he has about five bottles a day, so that would be 20 bottles after 4 days. I did read online that someone cut the label off the can and put it on the bag, so I will probably do that.

Well you can do that but a drug dealer could also do that - the TSA isn't going to depend on your word or a random label if there is a question.

Honestly though I would take the can going and then have room for something else coming back.

A full can of powdered formula is going to take up just about the same amount of space as a plastic bag....the only difference is the shape.

Take the can.

Well the shape is a big deal, a bag of powdered whatever changes shape and fits in any random space, much better than a fixed, hard can size, IMHO. (though i see where you are coming from, it's the same volume)

To the OP:
The job of the TSA is not to find drugs, just explosives. While apparently they do overstep those bounds, you are safe with a bag of powdered formula. They see it all the time. If for some reason they alert on it when it comes through the xray machine, they will ask you what it is. You answer, and you go on your way no problem. It doesn't look like a bomb, and that's really all they care about. Oh, and its not liquid. They care about liquid. Not powder though, so no worries. Though the label is not a bad idea, if it's no trouble to throw it in there, sure, go for it but its not necessary.

I don't think you will havve any problem taking formula in a plastic bag. I travel with loose leaf tea in a bag all the time and have never been questioned - and it looks just like a bag of marajuana! Formula smells like formula, not drugs if there is any question.

When I flew with my son at 11 months he was still on formula. I had one of those plastic formula/snack cups that holds three sections of premeasured formula powder. The TSA didn't so much as look twice at it. Maybe it was because they saw the rest of the baby stuff including bottles and the baby himself. I did get great advice to make sure I went through the security line labeled Family Friendly. Most airports have one these days.
