We leave in 1 week for our first ever trip to Universal. I’m a huge Harry Potter fan and I’m planning on purchasing a wand immediately upon arrival. I’m crocheting a wand holder to hang from my belt loop but I’ve run into a slight snag. I’ve looked online and see that most wands average 14” long; however, there are no measurements for the circumference of the wand. I only need a general idea (i.e. about the size of my pinky...). If you have an interactive wand and can help me out, I sure would appreciate it.

Make sure you purchase the interactive wand. So you can do the spells. They also sell non-interactive wands.

I would customize it to the wand you are going to purchase. The handles are thicker than the shank of the wand If you are buying a more decorative wand......Like Voldemort’s it would need to be a bit larger.

I would go for index finger size......your yarn will give a little to accommodate the wand if needed.

If you are buying a robe of your house........there is a wand pocket inside to hold your wand.

Thank you so much for the help. I will definitely get the interactive wand. So much more fun.

I have been looking at the pictures of the wands and have it narrowed down to two. Of course that is based on looks alone. As Ollivander says, “The wand chooses the wizard/witch.”

Good advice, I will definitely expand the upper portion of my holder to account for the handle. I’m actually such a geek, that I am taking a ball of yarn with me in case I need to modify my design.

Thanks again for all the help and advice. I have a feeling this is going to be a long week.

Snapped a couple quick photos... 15 1/2" long 7/8" at widest point.

You probably already know this, but be sure to watch the Olivander's show. Also, the wand comes in a box, and the box has a map for interactive locations. After you do some easy to find spells, you can take advantage of Knockturn Alley's shade and space to look over the map.

FYI- you can have the empty box sent to the front of the parks for pick up at the end of the day or your hotel (if staying onsite). Carrying an empty box around gets old. There are lots of non-character wands too.

Thank you everyone! I really appreciate the great info and all the help.

Are all the interactive wands the same price?

The Day we are going to the park is the day we officially check out of our resort, I know they will hold our luggage for us but can we still send purchases to the resort?

Yes, the interactive wands are all $50. This will be the second time we've used ours (bought in fall 2017.)

The shops also sell replica wands for about $37; because they're so close to the price of the interactive ones, people sometimes get confused. You'll want one with the little glass tip on the end.

If you're into the replica wands, you can get them on Ebay from China for closer to $10, with free shipping. The one I ordered was in a lovely Harry Potter presentation box as well.

$50 for a wand that actually does something is worth it, in my view. $37 for a static one you can get on Ebay for $10, is not.

I believe the interactive wands also have a gold label on the end of the box. I'd double check when paying.
