Very odd question: panhandling in DCA?

Sorry for the long description, but it puts things in perspective and I hope you find it entertaining.

On my recent trip, my DD2 was crying during the 12:40 Aladdin show, so I took her out. My plan was to take her back to our room, but she immediately fell asleep in her stroller. So I went to Award Weiners and got a beer. I couldn't find a bench in the shade, so I just sat on the sidewalk, leaning up against the Animation Academy, and enjoyed my beer while my DD slept, and while I waited for my DW and DD5.

Across the street was the locomotive from The Lone Ranger, near me was Jake the Neverland Pirate, and passing was the red car trolley with Mickey Mouse. While I wanted to see Aladdin, I have no regrets, this ended up being one of the highlights of my trip (actually this was my first Disney beer). I even asked a CM to take my picture.

So my question. I felt out of place sitting on the ground drinking a beer. I was tempted to make a joke of it and ask for change. I didn't, as I feared getting kicked out of the park. But does anyone know if DLR has a policy on panhandling?

Thanks for reading.

Ughhh, if you're being serious, no, no panhandling in Disneyland Resort.

Actually, for a short period (a few years ago) there was a small problem with panhandling in the parks. It seems to have been taken care of, however.

I have also seen homeless people and panhandling near the city bus stop on South Harbor near the main park bus entrance. It wasn't cute or funny.

Agreed. I thought it might be funny inside the park. Thought I'd ask the board.

Ok ok, apparently I was the only one who thought this could be funny. I thought about it briefly, didn't do it, and had a great afternoon break while following the rules. You all have my word I will never panhandle at Disneyland, inside or outside the park.

Thanks for your feedback.

I think it's funny, too. But it's been a long two days here in the heat (to which we are NOT accustomed in western WA) and I had my first beer in weeks, and I have had to deal with an upset child at Aladdin (though he was old enough where he could just hide under a blanket) who then had to go to the bathroom (and those bathrooms mean you get to leave the building to get to them!), so I could picture being at a point where my mind could go there. One of the reasons I dislike waiting for parades is the whole sitting on the curb thing...I feel weird doing that. So if I found myself sitting on the sidewalk there, absolutely my mind would start thinking about that. And I would laugh. :)

Did the CM take your picture?

Don't fret too much about your thought -- or your question.

I get it. You were sitting there on the ground, drinking a beer, leaning up against a building.... If you were on a street in a city, you could have put a cup in front of you and been given money. You weren't serious about panhandling in DCA, but it triggered the thought and the wonderment IF anyone has ever seen someone asking for money in DCA.

To answer your question: In the parks, no. In DtD, on Harbor Blvd, at the off ramps, yes.

It would be in bad taste to beg for spare change after paying $100 for admission, which reminds me of some early Amazing Race episodes where teams would be out of money and beg for change -- rich Americans begging in the third world :headache:

I'm not sure how poking fun at the homeless/less fortunate would be funny?

I don't think he's poking fun at the homeless. It's funny (to me) because it's more ironic that you would have a homeless person at a park where it costs a lot of money to go to. How would the homeless person get in, for example?

Maybe the next time I see a homeless person, instead of buying them a Disney Annual Pass, like I usually do, I'll just give them a few bucks. It might help stop this problem.

Lol. Correct, I wasn't making fun of the homeless. Many panhandlers are not homeless. It's a combination of:

1) Like bbeagle said, paying alot to get in and then panhandling.
2) Panhandling in Disney's idealistic portrayal of old Hollywood. Have you seen the real Hollywood?
3) I'm sitting on the sidewalk with a beer, so part of me just felt like a bum.

Back to my initial question, judegements aside, would Disney security actually eject me from the park?
