Very Merry Xmas Party worth it?

We are going for the first time on 12/10. We are not going to the parks that day, so we can use the extra day on our tickets on another day. We're super excited about it!

So, is theme park admission for that evening not needed if you have the special ticket? From their description, it sounded like you need MK tix for that day too to get in.

We were only doing one day at the MK and only had a handful of things we wanted to do ride wise, so party was $70 pp instead of one day admission of $100 pp // I'm not one who would do both the party and a regular ticket at the MK, so if I had multi day tickets, I'd give it a skip. // If you are really into characters and the other special things intrigue you, you might want to give it a shot. They have characters there you don't normally get to see. That's not our thing, so wouldn't be a draw for us, but many go gaga for that. // It was also too crowded for my taste. I prefer rope drop and doing my handful of things in the morning I think, but the party was something new for us and a $30 savings per person as we were only doing something Disney one day on our last trip. The party parades are super crowded and the overlap time between 4 and 7 (party and regular guests was insane.)

We've been twice, and we're going again this year. It's worth it to us. We don't go to the party to ride the rides, although we've done a few and the waits weren't bad because we rode during the first parade and watched the 2nd Parade. My kids are older so staying til midnight is a given for us. I guess we just love the atmosphere. The parade is amazing and the snow on main street is awesome. I live in the south and we don't get much more snow than Florida, so it's nice to pretend lol. Just puts me in a festive mood. :)

Almost every post from people that enjoy the party talk about meeting a rarely seen character or seeing a 'special' parade. If that is you then you might like it. If that isn't your family then you will probably walk away feeling like you wasted your money and time due to the high crowd level especially if you are on a multi day trip. Main Street and the hub area are packed with people, insanely packed. The wait times for the rides aren't that short either until about 11PM. The only part of the party that is cool is that from 11 to Midnight most of the rides like Space Mountain become almost walk up. However, at over $300 it just isn't worth it especially if your kids are too tired to care at Midnight.

I'm on the fence about going. We're a group of 10, so $700 to go for an evening. 4 or 5 hours. Compare that to just staying at the Poly for a whole extra day for that much. It would be neat to do, and I've got a day it fits nicely in after an Ohana dinner. I just don't know. People are so split on it. Even on this thread, for each person saying they love it there is another saying it's not worth it. Some say short lines, others say long lines. Some say to expect shorter lines close to later at night, and I found lines stay long pretty late, so I'm guessing those who say they find short waits might be off a bit, or at best it's varied.

Even if we could get on w short waits. In 4 hours ride a bunch of rides? We could do that during a day, I think the point of going to the holiday party is to enjoy the holiday stuff, not just ride the rides that you can do any time. (thus, the shorter lines). I would do it if we could meet Sandy Claws w a short wait, but if it's a 3-hour line to do this then we wouldn't. Other characters are not really important. We'd want to see the parade, fireworks, and parties.

On the other hand, this will be probably the only time we go around Christmas, so it's kind of if we don't do it this trip, we probably won't ever.

Would we be missing out? We have 8 days of parks, so it's not like we're hurting for MK time. One is a regular day late night even, so we'd be able to see the MK at night. Other 2 MK days are MVMCP days, so it's out of there by 4, unless we want to come back for the party.

Would we be missing out? We have 8 days of parks. 3MK, 2EC, 1AK, 1HS, 1DQ. So it's not like we're hurting for MK time. One is a regular day late night even, so we'd be able to see the MK at night. Other 2 MK days are MVMCP days, so it's out of there by 4, unless we want to come back for the party.

Depends when you are going in December. The week of Christmas, the parade and fireworks are shown as normal nighttime events. If earlier in the month, no one will know if your family will find value in it. For us the parade alone was worth it. Also my DS is a Buzz nut and the stage show in Tomorrowland was a lot of fun. Meeting the special characters can usually be accomplished in under an hour if you are on line before the start of the party. In our experience the lines were shorter well before 11 aside from the headliners. As we ventured between lands we'd see a ride like Pooh, hop on and ride in under 10 minutes, then continue on our way.

One thing that really stood out to us was the single best character interaction we've ever had at Disney, and that was with Santa's elf and reindeer. He didn't have much of a line, so we figured why not. Ended up sitting on the ground finding out everything my DS wanted for Christmas, so he could report back to the big guy. I actually wrote an email to guest relations when I got home applauding him he was so great.

My family loved it last year. We walked onto almost everything and it was a sold out party, however, I wouldn't spend the $ for a party ticket if I already had a park ticket for the day. Seems like a lot of $ for one day in the park.
