Hey there! You get 1 free RD for opening the card, this is good for 1 year from date of earning. They you accumulate gift cards that NEVER expire. So I opened charge in my name, earned 1 RD immediately and already have gotten 250 in giftcards. In the meantime, I ordered another visa in DH's name and have a free RD there but no giftcard quite yet as I am still working on the inital 500 from my card. The 500 must be earned in the first 93 days of opening the card....So basically charge 5k in 93 days. Once I hit that, I move on to the next card....

There is ANOTHER offer out there that costs 59 to open and you get 2 RT's but I like my offer better for my purposes!

So I clicked on the link you posted...it says, "Enough for a free flight"...does that mean round-trip?

Also, it is waiving the $59 annual fee the first year...would you be penalized if you canceled before then, sdoes it say in your card holder agreement?

Yes free flight is round trip. and I can't see how you would be penalized. You use the round trip before it expires in a year and a gift card is a gift card. No expire date, etc...I have read no where about a penalty...

Check your online SW statement for credits deposited for free Round Trip. Physical gift cards are sent in mail

Aw sorry Kristin. It was alive yesterday...an older promotion that was around at the holidays. I was able to open up 2 cards with it and a friend signed up yesterday. Sorry you missed it...the other one is a decent deal too though....

I know...there's only so much nagging a wife can do. I even reminded him again last night. He went to look today and GONE.

I was loving the waived annual fee and the non-expiring gift cards rather than the 2 tickets. People are acting like not many are happy with this other new deal.

Kristin "It is always easier to ask forgiveness than permission!". A motto I live by!!! Next time go for it but really the 2 free Round trip is a sweet deal. Grab that. They won't expire until 1 year AFTER you earn them. Can't beat that deal either if you are going somewhere in 2011

Hi there - we just got DH's card for the same deal. Scotmel, do you know if the giftcards are tied to the cardholder's rapid rewards account? In other words, if the card was taken out in DH's name, can I use them to book a flight for myself if he is not accompanying me?

Nope they are just generic run of the mill gift cards....no mention of RR number, etc. Do as you please with them@

At least for my signing up prior to 3/1I believe the tickets are good for just one year. However the 3/1 after sign up could be totally different....I could be wrong but for my case in my signup I really thought it was a year. Gift cards NEVER expire...

When your next statement is generated.

You have a closing date and then you have a date when they actually resolve your account and create your statement. It's usually around 5 business days between the two for my Disney Visa. I don't get my Disney rewards dollars until that day even though the closing date was almost a week earlier.

I am not spending anything extra. Bought disney gift cards to pay for a trip so that definately helped get the total up....

Hi Scotmel!

I just wanted to echo your thoughts as I too am very impressed. We obtained a card in DH's name and recently received our first $100 gift card. We should soon hit $2500 in charges and receive the second $150 giftcard. We did not move up our closing date as we are not at this point planning to fly anywhere this year, so we are not in a hurry to obtain the free flight. I'm kicking myself in the rear, however, for not getting a card in my name as well since the offer seems to be long-gone.

I do agree with the PP that the offer is designed to get people to charge more than they normally would, so it is not for everyone. We pay all our CC bills off every month, and (unfortunately) have some very large medical bills, so why not get the benefit of SW points and the special giftcard offer? Once I receive the bills, I charge them to the SW card, submit them through my flexible spending account, and pay the monthly bill with my reimbursement. It works for us, and I am so thankful for the OP who announced this deal to the boards - I would have never known of it otherwise! Hopefully, someday I'll have something to share!
