Very disappointed in studio at BCV

My family and I stayed in a studio at Beach Club Villas last week and I am so disappointed. I have loved every Disney resort we have stayed at but this one was just horrible. The resort was beautiful but the room was horrible. It smelled like cat pee in the room, the bathroom looked like it was so old and dated and the fire water sprayer on the ceiling was so disgusting with rust and possibly mold inside it. The mini fridge buzzed like a bumble bee for 95% of the day. I went to the front desk about the smell and the mold in the bathroom but all they did was send someone up with a giant blower that he turned on for 2 hours but just ended up making the room smell worse. Anyone else notice how bad these rooms are?

Like every place there rooms that are ok and then some that have had a lot more wear and tear. I haven't had anything quite like you describe and my last stay at BCV was a little less than a year ago but BCV is definitely past due for a refurb and supposedly getting one in the near future.

I would contact MS and either verbally speak with Manager or ask for an e mail Contact for a Manager! Sounds VERY BAD!:(:( Points are EXPENSIVE and this room sounds UNACCEPTABLE!

I hope that in spite of the accomodations, you had a NICE TIME! :)
Best of Luck!

Sorry for your bad experience, if you read my posts, I have reported similar issues.

Poor service happens at all of the resorts, issues with housekeeping happens at all of the resorts.

The more you vacation the more you will see and the greater the possibility that you can have a negative experience. DVC seems to have more negative issues than the cash resorts.

Your only recourse at the time was to go to the front desk and invite a manager to visit your room. You can report the problems to WDW guest relations and the DVC member satisfaction team. They will act like this is a unique occurrence but it happens too often. Poor quality/maintenance is a management/budget issue.

For what they charge this is really unfortunate and unacceptable. We will be there in February and if this happens to us we will ask for a room change. You shouldn't have to put up with this.

I certainly hoped you complained to someone while you were there. When I was there a few years ago, my room was so "tired-looking", to put it ultra-politely, I tracked down the head of maintenance and told him "If the furniture was for sale used on Ebay, I'd return it, it's in such bad condition." I also showed him the many stains. Coincidently a couple years later I got the same studio, and this time it was all spiffy clean with new furniture and no stains. Based on my experience I'd like to thine they DO listen. Now if only they'd do something about all those annoying carpet samples in the hallways, making it look patchwork.

I went to the front desk about the smell and the mold in the bathroom...

Gotta say that I love that you knew to GO to the front desk!

Sorry they didn't move you. I truly could not have stayed there. I'm ridiculously sensitive to those things, and twice now (once at SSR and once at a brand new Westin) have gotten so sick from mold/mildew or offgassing that it's been scary. I have a really weird reaction to it. I *have to* move with stuff like that.

Thanks everyone. We did have a excellent time on our vacation because it is Disney of course ;)

I was hoping they would move us but the person I spoke to at the desk was not very helpful and didn't seem to concerned even when I showed him the picture of the water sprayer in the bathroom.

Oh well! Next time we will just visit another resort. Hoping for a MK resort next year!

this is the pic of the nastiness in the bathroom:

The BC front desk does not tend to be my favorite. I heard serious attitude coming from the back on my last stay at BC when I asked to be moved because that room smelled moldy and I was finding the room was not really cleaned. Moldy coffee pod left in the coffee maker was my final straw. The clerk though was quite nice and pushed the back for a change although if it were a meeker person it would not have happened without more serious push back from me. Unfortunately not all CM's are looking to improve the guest experience.

Dirty fire sprinkler heads are common. They can't really be cleaned unless the fire sprinkler system is shut down. If they jar the head it will discharge and flood the space. To shut the system down, they would need the Fire Marshall on site, the sprinkler vendor and added security for fire watch throughout the building.

A cash guest wouldn't have a problem, DVC has a different set of policies. I posted a couple of years ago at BWV where we had a DVC room problem and maintenance arranged for the front desk to give us a new room. We were about to be handed our new room key when the CM noticed that we were DVC, her face color changed as she sent us back to the same room due to policy. The maintenance people were very apologetic that we weren't allowed to move as they worked to fix the room problem.

Sprinkler heads can be dusted and cleaned slightly without shutting down the fire sprinkler system and draining the lines. But if the head is rusty, it needs to be replaced. DVC needs to do maintenance on the system, shut it down, drain the lines and replace any rusty heads.

One accidental activation with oily, rusted water being sprayed in a hotel room is all it would take for their policy to be, "don't touch the sprinkler heads".

One CM's slight dusting is another's wipe it with a rag or brush. :scared1:

A lightly rusted head or escutcheon probably isn't service affecting and I doubt if they would spend the money for replacement.

We were always instructed to replace rusted heads by our Fire Safety Engineer. And I have seen the results of a broken sprinkler head. Boy, does that water stink.

They actually sent a person up to look at the water sprinkler and he said he could replace it but doesn't have the right tools. Whatever--I'll just try to not look up..lol

BUT then a few hours after he came to look at it, it started to fall out of the ceiling. At that point I just gave up as I didn't want to waste any more vacation time on hotel issues.

No excuse for rooms being in that shape. And shame on DVC (and by proxy) Beach Club for not moving you.
They are getting ready to do a full upgrade. The are doing the BC now and from what I've heard moving on to BCV's. And from your description not a minute too soon.......

Yet another thread about the poor condition of BCV, our home resort. It's awful. I love Disney! I love BCV! I hate the condition that Disney has allowed BCV to become. DVC is a very expensive timeshare and the resorts should be kept up better than they currently are. There is no excuse. Our last several trips we have been disappointed with the resort and how run down it's looking. We were very embarrassed bringing family, that had never been to Disney, after we had talked it up so much. The pieced together, mismatched carpet in the hallways is disgusting and has been like that for two years or more!!! I'm really hoping the refurb will be complete by the time we arrive in May!

Man I am always astonished by what we let Disney "write" off with the lousy excuse that we're not "cash" guest but not going to get into that old argument again.

Op, sadly what I do now is when we arrive, my self or my late dh would go upstairs and check out the room before moving one inch from the lobby.

We've simply gotten way to many unacceptable rooms.

I will say that we've never had any issues being reassigned another room even at bcv's.
Only happened twice but each time I just came back down and asked " we'd like another selection please".

sorry I don't give a flying fig if they have to shut down the central water system in all of south florida, I'm not paying to stay 10 days in a room with a half working rusty shower.

Uuugh,

There are days when I really want to buy in at the Poly, when the points open up and then there are moments where stuff like this makes me say buy elsewhere.
