Verse One: We’re Ready to Go (again)

We sat here again in 2004;
After our first trip in ’02, we wanted some more;
Now what is a reason to go visit the Mouse?
A big birthday is coming, that of my spouse!

My birthday, too, as a matter of fact;
Is two days before his. Heck, I might as well pack!
His age ends with a zero this year;
And he wanted to fly away, far far from here.

You see he was worried a surprise might be planned;
I’ve done it before, didn’t want his day to be bland;
So I nodded and said, “DisneyWorld would be good;”
No surprises for him, I sure understood.

The last time we went was the first trip for us;
Took our grandkids, so sweet, and over whom we do fuss;
With breaks, naps and swims, we had great results;
But in planning this trip, it was just for adults.

We wanted to go back to the Animal Kingdom Lodge;
With all of the animals you sometimes must dodge;
I’d love to splurge and get a concierge room;
Lots o’bucks, I am sure or at least I presume.

Before our last trip, I had found discussion boards;
The information I learned produced many rewards;
So I looked in my bookmarks and it was there still;
The DISboards trip planning! My spine felt a chill.

Its only August but a thread’s already begun;
About discount rates, annual passes and fun in the sun;
Our plan’s for November, and its easy to see;
I must buy an annual pass! He will surely agree.

I did a quick spreadsheet to prove to my spouse;
An annual pass saves us money when we visit the Mouse!
That room looks affordable when you have an AP;
I’ll need to watch for the codes before having a spree.

So I checked every day to see if rates had come down;
And then a post appeared! It was the talk of the town;
I made the call, got concierge and let out a big cheer!
That will save 500 bucks! I’ll be named Spouse of the Year!

I got a good price for the flight out of here;
Rented a car, not too bad for that time of year;
We have a room, we have tickets, what else should we do;
Besides sit and watch zebras in our room with a view?

Then I remembered what happens when I visit the Boards;
I get addicted to them along with the hoards;
Before I knew it I was reading trip reports again;
Delswife, Janet2k, Zurg and more, now and then.

The Boards are so great, so active, so many;
I found plenty to do without spending a penny;
But this trip is special, we’re both getting older;
So I expanded the budget and then I got bolder.

The first thing I saw was an IllumiNations cruise;
Do you have room for us? To see those great views?
And an answer came back that we could be spares;
A DIS member from the UK had answered our prayers.

And then there it was, the most special to me;
We could do a safari (having a concierge key)!
I called the pre-planning folks, they are so nice;
Yes, you can see the animals, perhaps even twice!

The Sunrise Safari is the best one for us;
We usually get up early without any fuss;
There was one that was scheduled for my birthday morn;
Book it! Perhaps we’ll see an ankole baby be born.

Now my excitement was building, it was hard to contain;
It can snow here in November, but there it could rain;
Hah! That wouldn’t stop us cuz we shop online;
So I ordered some ponchos, they’ll work out just fine!

So our trip was all set, or so I had thought;
But the boards drew me back, in their web I was caught;
A post caught my eye, blinking from the computer;
We could do a tour of Epcot and on a Segway scooter!

We just HAD to do that one, would there be enough room?
“Yep, sure is,” I was told. “Get ready to zoom
Okay, now I’m done, a great trip has been planned;
No more reading the boards, I must take a firm stand.

Well that lasted two days, and back I went to peruse;
To find a tip or two perhaps I could use;
And another idea jumped right off the page;
Dine with an Imagineer! It would be all the rage!

Now my husband works in the technology biz;
I have skirted that world but am surely no wiz;
We had seen a show on the people that do the creating;
So I called right away without hesitating.

The answer was “Yes, you could do that
“Go to the Brown Derby in the park with the hat
To be able to lunch and about the magic discuss;
Will be a lifetime memory for the two of us.

Okay, that’s it! The trip planning’s been fun;
We’re all set. Besides, nothing at home’s getting done;
Its time to do laundry, rake leaves, start to pack;
Schedule the cat sitter, find a ride to the airport and back.

So we’re off to Orlando and it’s a good thing;
The temps here are dropping, the rain has a sting;
Its sunny in Florida, the warmth will transcend;
Stay tuned! Wish us luck! We’ll be back next weekend.

Wow, what a great poem. I hope to see a follow-up upon your return. Have a fantastic time!!
