We often travel with another family. Competition is part of the fun - poker, shuffleboard, etc.

This year, we took it to an entirely new level with Verolympics 2008.

We had competitions in soccer, beach volleyball, archery, mini golf, Sequence (great board game), and of course, shuffleboard. My wife won the gold - and world record - for napping!

Each family could win gold in each event based on rules which were set as we went along (creating more fun than the actual contest!)

VB offers archery a couple of times per week. Each of us were scored based on where we hit the target (DW had two bull's eyes - enough for the gold!)

While we were crushed in soccer, we came back and won a thrilling beach volleyball game. We took the gold in mini golf by one stroke.

We hung a poster on one of the doors to keep track of medals.

Michael Phelps, look out!

Great idea...I could see this working on a variety of vacations, and it seems like a good way to get different ages of kids (and adults) to interact. It could be adapted for WDW as well...rode Rock 'n Roller Coaster the most, stood in line the longest, ate the most Mickey Bars (probably not a good category), etc. I would like to try for that napping award.

That sounds like so much fun! I would love to do something like that for our next trip. We are planning on playing tennis at SSR so maybe we could add a few more sports and make a contest of it. Great idea!:thumbsup2

Sounds fun!!

My DH would say I won the gold medal for shopping while we were at Vero!:rolleyes1

I just forwarded this thread to my traveling friends that we are going to Vero with next June. We may have Verolympics 2009!! We may have to add a few games though, like the mullet toss, the beer chug and possibly a spirit filled game of "OMG did you see that?" on the beach.
