Vero vs. Disney Cruise?

Last thread on this topic was in 2014, so I figured I'd revisit. How do we think Disney's Vero Beach compares to a Disney Cruise for a relaxing beach trip?

I'm a bit torn on whether to give up some Vero days in late August to do a cruise to Castaway Cay and Lighthouse Point. We've flown to Vero each of the past two summers - we love it and it's just such a great value. We've also done a Disney Cruise previously, but it didn't stop at the private islands. I generally think Vero is probably a much better value and less crowded, but I wanted to check if maybe I'm missing something?

Do a trip to VERO before and after a DCL cruise and compare! Great research!

You have stayed at Vero (we have also and have loved our stays) a few times but have not stopped/experienced DCL's private islands so I would choose the cruise.

If you can swing it, as @emchen posted, add a night or two before or after the cruise.

Happy Planning!!!

I'm actually looking at staying at Vero for a couple nights before or after a cruise that sails from Fort Lauderdale. The cruise is 4 nights and stops at the 2 Disney islands. I've never been to Vero, but the cruises are very relaxing and so easy because there's food/drink available easily at all times. The downside to planning the cruise for a beach vacation is that things can come up that make the ship skip the port, even though that's rare.
