Just got a letter from DVC that they will be performing maintenance work of the roofs of the Beachside Promenade. Beginning Feb. 27 the pool area, including gazebo, Community Hall and Pirate's Plunge pool slide will be under refurbishment. You may hear noise related to the roof replacement and see scaffolding in some of our outdoor common areas. The pool will remain open but the pool slide will be unavailable from Feb. 27 through late March. All work is to be completed in late April, weather-permitting.

I know it has to be done, but I'm a little disappointed they feel it had to be scheduled during the Premiere season at Vero. When you have to pay "top points" you'd like to have the whole resort available. They usually do work at BC/YC during January.

They have been working very diligently at VB to do hurricane repairs. I believe they patched most of the roofs and then were scheduling to do full replacements. Hopefully hurricane season 2006 and for the next several years will be more gentle to the area-- We were there this past summer and they were working on the resort--I don't know if they had any further damage this fall from hurricanes or not. But their new boardwalk to the beach is so nice and sturdy that hopefully it will last for many many years to come. You will notice that the mangrove area is very thin--it used to be so high and thick that you had a hard time seeing the ocean from parts of the resort. We have great views now, but it really is an eye opener to the destruction they had. If your kids are small they will enjoy the kiddie ship slide (not as much fun) and the beach is very nice. Enjoy your stay.

Yes, I agree, the timing seems really bad. It's too bad they didn't switch some of the inn work with the pool area. We were there in May and didn't notice work being done on the inn at all. I did let out a sigh of relief when I read your post since we will be there over Pres. Week.

Pam is rereading your post, do you think that they are just going to be working on the pirate ship slide and not the big slide for the main pool? You could call to the resort and ask for clarification.

Hope this is finished by spring beak. Your right about the timing, why during premium points season. Swimming is such a vital part of the resort.

Yikes! We are going to VB on April 17th for 5 days! I sure hope the slide is done by then! You're right - why couldn't they have started this right after the New Year so it would ALL be finished by the end of March for Spring Breakers like us?! I know the work has to be done but do it during the winter/low season when it is less likely to affect very many people! We are on the waiting list for another night because the Inn rooms and Studios were all booked!

The letter states the pool slide will be unavailable from Feb. 27-end of March. Work on the entire area will not be completed until late April "weather permitting". It's as if they looked at the point chart to see when Premiere Season fell -- March 5-April 22 are the highest points of the year.
