Vero or Hilton Head

DH & I are thinking of going to either Vero Beach or Hilton Head in October - adults only trip.

I have a few questions maybe some of you can answer.

--We are owners are OKW. How hard would it be at this point to get something at either of these resorts?

--I was looking at the point schedule and noticed that Vero had lower points at this time than HH. Is October rainy season in Vero?

--How is the weather in HH at this time of year?

We have never been to either of these DVC resorts so any information you can give is appreciated.

October in Vero can be quite beautiful. The summer heat and humidity have left but it is still warm. There is the outside possibility of a hurricane at this time of year but those generally come with warning and are followed by spectacular weather.

The premiere time for Vero is the winter months because of its history as a winter getaway. The lower points for the fall are just a reflection that there has to be some "low" season. This is actually a great time to go if you can get away.

I went in October this past year and reserved a room about 1 month prior with no problem. It was a beautiful time to go - perfect temperatures, not real crowded, but still activities going on. I love HH as well - we live nearby and have been about 5 times - but for I think I'd pick VB for an adult's only trip. They also have the Visa rates that time of year as well - I think I did 1 night cash because I was out of points, but the points are so cheap then, it's hard to beat.

I went to Vero the 3rd week of Oct and had mid 80's every day. I suspect Hilton Head would have the chance of being cooler at this time of year. Hurricane season can spill over into Oct so I usually avoid early Oct vacations in Florida. I like VB's resort a lot, but if it's just adults I'd recommend HH. There's so much more to do on the island than there is in VB. It'd give you a chance to visit some of their many fine restaurants, for example, where with kids that's not often an option. The weather in October is still pleasant there, and the crowds have tailed off.

Both resorts are really wonderful, but it's what surrounds the resort that gives HHI the edge. JMHO.
