I have stayed ONE night at Vero Beach after a cruise the summer of 2015. But have never stayed or been to Hilton Head.

What I would like to know is how are these resorts alike and how are they different.
Obviously they are alike because they are both on the beach -- but any other similarities?

Thanks in advance!!

HH is NOT on the beach, it's in the swamp area. There is a beach house and a van to shuttle you to and from.

Hilton Head is on a beautiful marsh - not a swamp.
Short shuttle (or car) to a gorgeous beach house.
Hilton Head is our home and we love it there! :beach:

HHI is different. VB is a beach vacation. HHI is different, it's like combining a lake vacation with, fishing, kayaking and very flat hard beach all rolled into one. Until you do it is really hard to describe so you would understand. I very relaxing, yet full of activities for you to do. Think about people get around with bikes.

As noted, one is on the beach, the other not. It's just over a mile I believe to the beach across a major street. They are just different resorts. VB will tend to have their busy season more in line with South FL and the Caribbean with a summer blip while HH will have their busy season consistent with more northern options. In translation that means VB will be busiest Xmas to Easter time and HH in the mid summer (Mid June to mid Aug). The warmer it tends to be, the busier HH will be and vice versa though holidays will increase demand as well. VB is more in a residential area with not a lot close from an activity and restaurant standpoint (though not that far with a car) while HH is well, on HHI with a lot of options within easy access and a fair number in reasonable walking distance. No on site traditional restaurant for HH though a number close by. They're both great resorts however, IMO, there are non Disney resorts that are better options for the locations. IMO there are at least 4 or 5 timeshares on HHI that are better, 3 significantly so, plus several others that are overall comparable. For VB there are no other timeshares in the immediate area that are reasonable but there are a number that would serve the same purpose and IMO, better resorts with more options just north or south of there. I don't believe either are reasonable without a car.

One person's "swamp"is another person's "marsh". Since HHI is also one of our homes, our choice is obvious. However, I've heard from people who really dislike HHI. For one thing, getting around at night is a real challenge-Lights aren't bright, signs are small. To us, it's part of the charm, like one big "find me" game. Unfortunately, we've never been to Vero so can't compare. However, I just thought of another advantage/disadvantage at HHI-all the dining options are off-site and almost all require a car to get to. No character dining. Just a small quick serve window, similar to OKW's "Good's to Go" (matter of fact, we often get the names "Good's to Go" and "Tide me Over" confused because they're very much alike). I predict that OKW fans love HHI. If not a fan of OKW, maybe not so much at HHI.

Simba's mom, No offense intended, I just couldn't think of MARSH when I replied to OP. Sorry.

The short distance to the beach is no big deal at HH. The beach house is beautiful.

IMO the biggest difference between VB and HH is the closeness of restaurants outside the resorts. There are numerous restaurants and food stores very close to the HH resort (some at walking distance). If you want to go to a food store or restaurant off the grounds at VB be ready for a 20-30 min drive.

They are both great resorts. I will say this about the great staff at HH, they definitely drank the Disney Coo-lade. More so than any other DVC resort we have stayed.

VB is my least favorite resort. Beach is narrow and waves can come in really hard - I got tumbled pretty badly once. And, it is a 20 minute drive to ANYTHING. You can rent bikes and ride along the river but that's about it. HHI is almost like two resorts. On the marsh is beautiful and kids love fishing and crabbing off pier. A short van ride (or bike) to the beach is the beach house, another pool area and snack/bar areas and wide-wide beach with usually very calm water...Gentle waves. Definitely rent bikes as the sand is hard packed near the water and you can ride for miles along the beach as well as the many bike trails. Also, many great places to eat -- might want to drive for that. And, did I mention golf?
