First a little background information, we will be going to Disney World in a few weeks and we got the Gold Pass because it is about the same price as buying tickets would have been. It is just my wife and I, so no kids to worry about.

So, we want to get a little added value, we are thinking of going again the first week of December, but all of Disney World DVC studios seem to be booked already for that week.

Since this is a bonus trip anyway, we we're thinking about the possibility of staying at Vero Beach and renting a car, then driving up on a few days. Yes, I know it is about a 2 hour drive, but we are from Southern California and a 2 hour drive is a fairly normal occurrence for us.

We also have Platinum passes to Sea World San Diego, so we can get into any of the parks owned by Sea World for free with free parking, except Discovery Cove.

So after that long winded explanation, my questions are:
  • Is this a feasible plan?
  • Is the first week of December a decent time to go to Vero Beach?
  • What other things are there to do around Vero Beach?

The temps are 75/57 usually with sunny days. The Disney pool is heated and the resort isn't very crowded.
Sites include the nearby Navy Seal Museum, Vero Beach Art Museum, the McKee Botanical Gardens, McLarty Treasure Museum, Hallstrom Farmstead, Schactht Groves (xmas shopping), dolphin cruises, VB Outlet mall, nature trails (jungle trail is within walking distance of the resort) and nearby Kennedy Space Center. Plus depending on when you come, Vero Beach and nearby Fort Pierce have Xmas boat parades on the lagoon.
