Is this the place to ask about Vero Beach? I am not in the timeshare program but I know you can stay there without. Just wondering peoples thoughts on it and the best time to go for swimming. I worry about Dec-March for swimming. Any ideas? Is it good for a week or not enough to do?
Thanks!

You can check out the DVC Board further down the list of topics. There will a lot of info about Vero Beach there. Plus, any questions you have can be handled by the experts.

From what I understand Vero Beach is not the best beach for swimming anyway. I've never been, but I thought I read where it is a little rough for kids.

Disney's Vero Beach is a very nice resort. We were there in October and found the water too chilly for swimming but fine for wading. I would agree that it is not a great swimming beach but a great playing on the beach/walking in the beach area. The resort also has a nice pool area that we enjoyed and lots of poolside activities if you have kids.

Not sure about the weather... I assume the pool would be heated but I don't know for sure. We stayed 3 days last summer and never even made it to the beach! I couldn't get the kids out of the pool! There was also a mini-golf course right next to the pool that we played a dozen times. Bikes to rent, although we didn't. I really enjoyed it. It was a lot smaller than I thought it would be, but the pool never was too crowded. The water slide was super fun! And the kids liked the pirate boat splahing area. Limiting eating choices on site, but if you get a villa I guess you could cook, and I think there are some nice restaurants out in the town. And the outlet mall!

We really liked it and wished we had a more time. A week would be ok I think if you like just lounging around. :)

Have fun!
Kim :)

It is a relaxing beach vacation but I wouldnt say there was alot to do there. That time of year will most likely be to cold to swim. We like the resort for a few days to relax then head over to the world for some fun!!!

I live in Vero. I find it too cold to swim those months, but friends from up north never seem to have a problem.

It is more often rough waves than not, but sometimes usually in the early AM, it can be calm. My 5 and 9 year old boys love riding the waves. It is not so good for swimming, but good for body surfing, boggie boards, etc.

When we went in March, we thought it was too cold for swimming, but it may be different each year. The pool is nice, and that's where my son swam most of the time. Unfortunately, a few of those 4 hurricanes went over Vero about 3-5 years ago, and some things, like restaurants, were destroyed. We haven't been back, so I'm not sure how much it has been rebuilt.

Pretty much everything in Vero Beach has been rebuilt. There is a high percentage of nice restaurants here compared to the population because of the high income of most of the residents. (Half have 2nd homes here and only live here in the winter months).

There is not a lot to do with younger kids. Check out the Environmental Learning Center which is really close to Disney, renting boats in Sebastian to take out on the Indian River (look for Dolphin), and kayack the Sebastian River. There are some river tours you can take if you want a guide. For more adventure, head inland to Fellsmere and take an airboat ride.

We take our grandkids ages 8 and 9 every July and they love it! The hotel has numerous activities to keep them busy. The resort has sand castle building, scavenger hunts, tee shirt decorating, movie night,un-birthday party, etc. Usually the grandkids are having so much fun at the beach/pool that we miss many of the activities. We love this resort and I am not really much of a beach person!:)
