Just a little advise for some owners planning on a 10-14 day trip to DW. Break up your trip for a few days at Vero Beach. Its a short drive from DW(about 2 hours) and well worth it. We stayed there for 2 nights in an oceanview room and had a great time. This was a great break in the middle of our DW craziness. I just wonder what percentage of DVC owners have even been there. I rarely see anyone post about VB. It is smaller than the rest of the DVC hotels but probably the most underrated. Does anyone else make a regular jaunt to VB ?

We love Vero Beach. We had an ocean view room and got up every morning to watch the sun rise. Breath taking. We'll definetly be going back.

Vero Beach is absolutely beautiful. We try to go at least once a year. Its a pain in the butt to get to, renting a car or flying into south Florida, but like op said it is well worth it!! In a little more than 4 weeks I am driving to FLorida -Vero for Thanksgiving :cool1: !! We will be in a beach cottage. I am soooo excited  I can't contain myself!!! After 4 days in Vero we are off to Disney for a week. A little backwards for most people but Disney is my relaxing part of a vacation!! Sitting on the beach is more stressful for me, 3-4 days is my limit, but if your going this is the place!!!! :cloud9:

We have been members of DVC since the beginning and visited Vero Beach for the first time this past August. It is a great vacation after the WDW vacation. We will visit again ASAP!

On our first DVC trip in April, we stayed at VB for a couple of days before our cruise. We loved it so much! We only had 2 full days (with one spent at Kennedy), and it was just not long enough!! The laid back style is perfect after the WDW vacation. I think it will end up being part of our WDW vacation everytime. Such a great way to unwind...

By the way, we just stayed in an Inn room with a parking lot view. Still loved it!

We normally go to Vero Beach for part of the 1st week of May. We started this tradtion when I was 7 month pregnant with my 2nd child (who is now 2), so we have been 3 times and LOVE it. We fit very well in a Inn room (ocean view) and it is only 10 points a night during the week in May.

This May we are doing a DCL trip for the 1st time, but I think we are going to miss Vero. Maybe after the curise we will head over there for a few days instead of WDW since our AP will be expired.

Anyway it is a great place. We love it. :thumbsup2

Shhh don't let the secret out. :thumbsup2 The TreasureCoast is our home away from home. pirate:

We're going for our first trip to VB Nov 5th, but from what I've heard I think it will be the ending to all our WDW vacations. It will be great to relax a little before going home.

DH and i are not beach-sitters - is there other stuff to do at the Vero resort?

I've always been a beach hater...sand, dirt, sunburn, bugs...ick! But on our last trip to WDW, we took one day to spend at VB. And guess what...everyone LOVED it! (Even me!) Who knew... :confused3 I don't think I would want to spend a full week there, but just sitting under an umbrella on the sand, watching the kids and DH playing in the sea was so idyllic and relaxing, I can't imagine not going back.

So we decided to buy a small resale contract there so we could book a beach cottage for a couple of nights every other year or so. Hope it clears ROFR!

We weren't beach people, give us the parks from morning to night and we were happy.

Then we tried Vero Beach and left DVC members, although owning at OKW.

Next we tried HHI, to avoid the cost of park and airline tickets because we had college tuiton to pay. Well we now love the beach. It took us a while to get used to not planning each day ex. ADR's, what time to get up for park opening, etc., But we learned to slow down and have really enjoyed our beach vacations.

At Vero we went to the nearby treasure museum, and then used metal detectors on the beach. This was arranged through the resort. We didn't find anything of value, but had a lot of fun trying. The kids still talk about this day, six years later.

They also did a teens night-out for pizza and a movie.

Give Vero and HHI a try, you might be surprised too.

I only sit on the beach when my lips are blue & DW makes me get out of the water.

They have a nice pool & Lighthouse waterslide, a hot jet pool, miniature golf, exercise room, ping pong, bike rentals, The Green Cabin Room (bar/restaurant) has 2nd floor covered deck that has a fantastic view of the ocean and is a nice place to relax with your favorite beverage. It also has live entertainment in the evenings. At night they have a campfire / s’more roast. You can rent a small catamaran or jet-ski for ocean fun. Across the street they have a lake and nature trail, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Disney built a private tunnel under the road to access this area.

Five minutes away is Pelican Island and a wildlife education center. Also minutes away is Sebastian Inlet were the Indian River meets the ocean. There are river excursions where you can see dolphins, manatee, and tons of other types of wildlife. About an hour away is Cape Canaveral, (where the Magic and Wonder dock), the Kennedy Space Center, and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge with walking and driving tours.

Shh! VB is the best kept Disney secret. We'll be going there next July as my graduation present, just in timefor turtle nesting season! It's just beautiful, with great CM's who are so friendly, a beautiful beach, pool, great restaurants in and outside the resort (Captain Hiram's in Sebastian!).

The naturalist at the resort is terrifice. Take the kayaking trip -- Disney owns a little deserted island that they take you to. It's just awesome. The manatees came up to us and pushed the kayaks with their noses, the went under the kayaks and turned over to have their bellies rubbed. Talk about your Magical Day! :wizard:

I didn't know about this little jewel trip. Is this directly through Disney?

thanx for the info - the mini golf sounds like fun. we live one mile from the beachfront, so sand and surf are not anything that we have a shortage of - all year rond and in all types of weather!

we used to visit the treasure coast frequently over the past 20 years, so i guess we could always use vb as a 'home' base to visit old haunts and to find some new ones.

Regarding the kayaking trip...Please let me know if there is an age limit for children to participate. Mine will be 14, 10, and 9yo, and we would love to do this!
