Thank you for your support in hurricanes' aftermath
Thank you for your many phone calls and well wishes as Florida continues to recover from Hurricanes Charley, Frances, and more recently, Ivan.

The Walt Disney World® Resort safely withstood the impact of the two storms which passed through our area, maintaining power and sustaining only minimal horticultural damage. All Walt Disney World Theme Parks and operations are open and fully operational.

On Monday, September 20, 2004, Disney's Vero Beach Resort will reopen after a brief closure due to the impact of Hurricane Frances, which made landfall near Vero Beach, Florida, earlier this month.

While limited repair work continues in specific areas of the resort— including Sonya's restaurant and the children's wet deck, which remain closed at present—the resort Cast are ready and excited to welcome home Members and Guests once again for a magical Disney vacation.

Member reservations for stays starting September 20 are being accepted effective immediately.

We'll continue to share updates as they become available, and we look forward to welcoming you home again soon.

What a wonderful testimony to DVC, the CMs & any & all locals who have helped get VB reopened in such a timely fashion!

Isn't Shutter's the restaurant that has all the windows? I wonder what could have happened to Sonya's.

We are heading to VB in early October - our first trip there! I was told originally that it was opening 10/1 and now it is 9/20! Yeah!

Just wondering - is there anything special that we need to be sure and not miss while we are there?

Shutters has the windows in the front, Sonyas on the side toward the pool.

The CM today said that Sonya's was flooded and they have to replace some carpet and flooring.

She also said they are working on the ramp to the beach but the stairs are in use.

Shutters and the Green Cabin Room are open and the pool, community hall, etc. are also open.

She stated they did a "soft opening" over the weekend.

I wonder if they will be busy tonight. I hope it doesn't take them long to get back into the swing of things.

Yes, Shutters is the one with all the windows. But then all of these windows have, well, Shutters to protect the from inclement weather. And we all thought they were merely decorative; then again, I doubt if they used any of the inside shutters for protection, tho perhaps they could have. One of the reasons for all the shutters in Caribbean decor is that they come in handy protecting the property from high winds and violent storms, and are not simply a fashion statement.

My DD3 cried when I told her we couldn't go to Vero due to the damage caused by the storm. She said she felt sad for the kiddies....they would have nowhere to play! She must associate that place with kids playing around the pool. :teeth:

We are soooo glad that we can now go. My mums reaction was priceless when I told her that we would be visiting Vero after all.

My DD? You guessed, she cried again - so happy that it was all better.......and that she would be able to try the 'tootie tot' song and s'mores again!princess: We are amazed that she remembers this from her trip last year.

Thanks to all the wonderful CM's who helped to make my daughters dreams come true, when they are all suffering so much. Huge thanks.

Finally, does anyone know how the beach is?

Flfam-thanks for the update. How does the rest of the area look? Not just the resort I mean. Hope life is getting back to somewhat normal.

3 more huricanes brewing-lets help blow them further out to sea. Enough is enough.
