I will be going with my family to Vero the week of Memorial Day and was looking for any suggestions of activites. My DS's are ages 4 and 11. We have already planned a day of fossil hunting with Paleo Discoveries. Any other suggestions would be great. Thanks! :sunny:

My wife and I had a good time visiting the museum up the road in Sebastian.
It's not huge, and doesn't really look like much from the road, but we found it very interesting.
There are many trinkets that were found off the coast. In addition, there is a very informative movie about explorations and shipwrecks off the Treasaure Coast.
It captured our interest, but whether or not a 4 year old would sit for the movie is still a mystery.

In my opinion, the best part of Vero is the pure relaxation; the pool, beach, and of course The Green Cabin Room! :drinking:

We are a middle aged couple but we like the same things as kids! As mentioned above, the Sebastian Treasure museum up the road from Disney is very interesting. The whole idea of so much treasure nearby is fun!

We also took a boat ride sponsored by the Marine research Center which is down south of Disney on the mainland side (Sorry I can't remember the exact name of it but some locals at the resort might know). It was very nice and we were able to spot dolphins and manatees in the intracoastal. Nice ride with kids.

We drove down to the Vero power plant where the manatees hang out in the colder weather.

We enjoy Capt. Hirams (I know it was damaged in one of the storms but I think it is back now ...1606 Indian River Dr
Sebastian, FL 32958-1610 ). The kids would enjoy lunch there.

There is always the LA Dodger's spring training if you are there in March.

Have fun :)

Don't forget the campfires, and at the time you are there, perhaps seeing the sea-turtles. When my sons were small, they really enjoyed the beach - just digging in the sand, building castles, etc. The resort will have someone conducting pool games, with music on the weekend, and I believe they do some kids activities like the "unbirthday party" that they do at the WDW DVC resorts. There is also usually a croquet game set up on the lawn. I think you will find plenty for your kids. I am going there tomorrow (alone) and can't wait!

We're going to Vero in July. We are planning a day trip over to the Kennedy Space Center.

Probably not great for the 4 year old, but it would be fun for an 11 year old. My kids are excited about going to Kennedy. They are 9, 11 & 15.

I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions re dinning out or in. is there restaurants nearby say 15 mins away or as we are just there for two nights would it be nice to dine at the resort.

My wife and I try at least one new place everytime we visit.
The best (by far) we've found is the Ocean Grill. It's not cheap, and you may need a reservation depending on season and day of the week.
It's also directly on the ocean, with a great atmosphere. The food is outstanding! (but get a side of horse radish if you get the shrimp coktail, otherwise it's just ketchup).

Our second favorite is Sonya's, right at the resort. This restaurant is now only open on weekends I believe, so check that.
Shutters, also on property, is a GREAT place for breakfast.

There are tons more, but in my opinion, these are the best.

Have fun! :smokin:
