Vero beach - spring break - no slide!!!

My girlfriend just called me because she's got spring break reserations at Vero. She's DVC too....

Any rate, she just got a letter saying the pool slide will be down, the community hall, etc.....

She's very mad. What are the kids supposed to do for entertainment. Her airfare is already purchased for Miami, so she's kinda stuck (doesn't want to go to WDW).

So does anyone know of a good hotel to use her points on .... near Miami, on the beach?

And my question, is why the rehab over spring break? Why not in Jan or Feb or some other lower usage time....? I don't get it....

I raised the same question on here the other day. I know the work has to be done and there is never a good time but the roofs of the recreation area aren't time critical....why wasn't it done in January or put off until May? It is the most expensive time at the resort. The pool itself will be open but not the slide. I can't imagine this will be a draw for future cash paying customers either. Oceanview rooms in March are over $300 per night -- can't imagine folks will be happy having hammering wihile they "relax".

I know when I originally made the reservation they had a comment about roof repair. The CM said she thought it was very odd because the roof repair was almost complete -- I'm guessing they were covering themselves for this announcement.
