:hippie: I would love to hear opinions on Vero Beach resort. Is it a great beach vacation?

I'm considering an add-on there and would love to hear pros and cons.

Thanks so much
Diane

It was our first trip and we loved VB. It was a super beach vacation. The resort has plenty of activities and the beach is just across the dunes.

We have nothing like this on our Texas Gulf Coast so we will definitely return for future visits.

If you have specific questions, please let me know and I will share anything I can about our recent trip.

We (family of 4) had a stay last June and loved it. We also stayed for a couple of days after a cruise last Dec. Only comment I would give is there is limited dining close by. You would need transportation for additional options.

We really like VB DVC. We do not own points there, but have used our OKW points to stay there 2 to 3 nights at a time coupled with our WDW DVC vacations many times since 1995. We have not had a problem getting reservations at the 7 month window.

My DW and I like to walk on the beach, but are not big on swimming in the ocean. Most people swim at the pool. There are lifeguards on duty at the pool, but not on the DVC beach. You can rent equipment, chairs, umbrellas and cabanas for the beach.

We enjoy being able to hear the waves crashing from our room and drinks at the Green Cabin Room. The CMs there are very friendly, too.

There are activities for adults and kiddies, wine tastings, campfire singalongs and nature activities.

If you decide to try there, we have some restaurant recommendations besides Shutters and Sonya's.

We stayed there a year ago and had 3 nights booked. We loved it there so much that we stayed for 3 more nights and bought points there soon after we got home!:)

I would love to see the additional dining options. We have loved each stay there.

One of our favorites is Squid Lips on Route 1 in Sebastian - about seven miles from the resort. It is built out along the intercoastal waterway and has a waterview on three sides. Try the grouper sticks. :thumbsup2 There is sometimes a book of coupons in the room that has a coupon for them. That's how we found out how good they are!

Captain Hiram's just before Squid Lips on the Intercoastal isn't too bad either.

For breakfast we like Country Ham and Egg, also on Route 1 in Sebastian just over the line on the left side of the road as you travle north and before Squid Lips. It seems like the place that the local folks go to eat. :)

Thanks for sharing that info. We are planning our first visit to Vero for next May and this will come in handy!

Thanks for the recommendations. I remember from our last trip the decision making process for dining including Squid Lips. I'll archive this for a future trip!
Again Thank!!

I would like to go there next June. Besides hanging out at the beach, what else is there to do? Is it a long drive from the airport to the resort?

It's about 1 1/2 hours from MCO to Vero Beach.

There are activities at the resort. We just got back from a 3 night trip, and on 2 of the mornings they held a lottery for the turtle walk that would take place at night. This is nesting season for the sea turtles who come ashore to lay eggs. We didn't try to get into the lottery, but we did take the "Treasures of Vero Beach" information walk that was offered, and it was very informative. Matt, was the CM, and he had lots to say about the history of the area and how Disney makes it's resort reflect the area it's in.

There's a cute 9 hole mini-golf course, you can rent bikes and other rec equipment at the resort, they offer massages. In the area there are nature centers, museums (We went to one at the Sebastian Inlet SP. Admission was $1 per, and it had good exhibits and a boardwalk overlook a most beautiful part of the beach. The museum is on the site of the survivors camp from one of the beach wrecks of the Spanish fleet that sunk.)

I brought a few books with me to read while relaxing, and I never got to them. We relaxed and just enjoyed the area, walked on the beach, swam and the pool.

We're also people who bought points at VB right after our first trip there.

You guys are scaring me ........ my family and I are staying in 2 OIOV rooms for 3 nights in August before our week stay at BWV. Sounds to me some of you do this and then come home and BUY POINTS at Vero !!!!

Thanks though for all the tips and ideas .

We hope 4 days 3 nights with 2 kids is enough time to relax AND enjoy the resort's activities !
