Hi All!!

Happy New Year!!! :cool1:

I just book a week at Vero Beach for me and the fam in July. My boys will be 10 and 16 by then and I was just wondering what good activites there are for them? Can I send them off on their own and just sit on the beach? Do I need to Pre-register for them? Any idea of the cost of activites?

Also, I understand that there is a character dining there. Do I need to pre-register for that also?

This is our first time vacation on DVC and not at a park. I am looking forward to a relaxing vacation but dont really know what to do with myself.

thanks for all your help, tips and advise.

I have not stayed at Vero Beach Disney, but I have rented a beach house very close and we loved it.

It is definitely worth having a car to go outside the resort. Be sure to go to Mclarty Treasure Museum, and Captian Hirams for lunch or dinner, you will be sitting right on the waterfront and almost always see dolphins. You will also be very close to Sebastian State Park Inlet pier, and if you go there you will see manatees. We rented a pontoon boat from the Marina Inlet there and went island hopping for the day, if you like boating it is a blast.

The only negative about that area is that they have a flying bug called no-see-ums that bite in the early mornings and evenings so be sure you have mosquito spray and try to avoid being out at those times. Two of our party had reactions and it took 3 weeks to stop the horrible itching.

We have 2 boys....11 and 7, so they are a bit younger. A lot of Vero's activities are a sign up at the Eb and Flo when you get there. Some require an adult others do not. At the resort they have the usual ping pong, croquet, pool games, bike rental...stuff like that. The only thing we couldn't sign up for was the river canoeing ride, it was sold out. We did a 1/2 week-split stay and got there on a Wed., so the people that were there at the beginning of the week were able to get the reservations first. Brother-in-law and niece rented jet skis and went off for an hour on the ocean.

It is pretty busy in July so I would make a dining reservation now for the character breakfast just to be on the safe side. We were there in August and the place was full, however we never had a problem eating there or off property.

hope this helps. Have a great time.

Cheryl
