Vero Beach Questions

We have 3 plane tickets for next Feb to Orlando. However, after 3 trips to Disney World/Universal Studios, we all agreed with are on "disney overload". We do not want to lose these tickets, however. So I thought, "Vero Beach". Can anyone give me any info about this resort. Did you like it? Would a 16yo boy be bored, or is there plenty for him to do. Is there any attractions near the resort? Is it an easy drive from the airport? Any info would be deeply appreciated, as we have to book this soon...

We LOVE Vero - we are in the process of planning our 4th trip there for next August.

We haven't done February but we have been in March and the weather was beautiful - high 70s to low 80s- and a little cool at night. The ocean was chilly and the undertow was strong so we didn't really swim in the ocean.

It is located about an hour and 45 minutes from the Orlando airport - easy drive.

There are tons of activities for all ages - we brought family with us on 2 trips including teenage nephews (14 and 15 on the most recent trip). For them - I would say they had the most fun body surfing in the ocean, swimming in the pool, they played ping pong, basketball, tennis and mini golf daily, they rented movies and in general, hung out. The resort is small and we were very comfortable letting them roam around on their own which pleased them.

There are plenty of activities like kayaking, wave runners, etc that we didn't event try.

I meant to say that after 3 trips to DW/Universal Studios this past year!! I'll be needing another Disney fix in the future. Thank you for the info...

I will second the I LOVE VERO sentiment. I will also second the EASY DRIVE opinion. We never have any kids in our party so I can't offer any opinions on the bored 16 year old. I guess it would depend on the 16 year old. The resort is beautiful with many activities planned throughout the day. There are also activities in the area, like dolphin cruises and cattle ranch tours. The vero pool is my favorite Disney pool with a great slide. Hurry up and make those reservations and get ready to fall in love with Vero. I would suggest a one bedroom or higher. The extra room and kitchen come in handy. Our trips to Vero are more resort centered then our WDW trips.

Vero is my least favorite DVC location - mainly because the beach is very narrow, not pretty sand, and the surf is very rough (I got hurt in the tumble).

On the other hand, there are non-beach things to do. On site there is a miniture golf course and a nice big pool. We rented bikes and went on a very long ride (absolutely flat ground). There are orange groves nearby and one of the orange juice manufacturers has tours. The beach is home to sea turtles which are protected so you can walk along and see where their nests have been marked off. The larger vacation homes there are gorgeous.

All depends on what you want to do.

All add to the above posts........ For us it was 97 miles from Orlando airport to VB ( Beeline 528 east to I95 South) it took us about 1hr and 30 minutes.
The resort is beautifull and laid back (very relaxing). The farthest walk from one end of the resort to the other would take 5 minutes. They have 2 onsite restraunts(Shutters and Sonyas).
The VB pool is one of DVC best(not counting SAB). Within 15 minutes of the resort is the Indian River Mall that has a Movie Complex there and a Food Court.
There are also chain restraunts like, Chilli's,Outback,TGIF, Bob Evans,Ruby Tuesday,etc.
I would also recomend getting a 1 BR or larger. Wait until you see the Beach Cottages(view).
We have only been there once so far, but we already have added more pts there, and are going back in July!!

we are also going first time to VB in Nov. I called and found out about the events....all subject to change depending upon the season, etc.

I'm just wondering about where we can eat Thanksgiving. I know I'M not cooking.
