After staying at OKW for a week...we are planning to make a stop at Vero Beach for a Friday/Saturday/Sunday mini vacation prior to heading home to Virginia.

My question is....and a broad question it is....can you share with me some of your Vero Beach experiences and some pro and con of staying there....

Thanks...

After the hustle of WDW, my family enjoyed the slower pace at VB. We did the same thing on our last three days of vacation. My five year old actually likes VB better than MK! He can not wait to go back. My wife was the same way(She especially likes the big jacuzzi tub in the 2BR villas) , that is why this year's vacation is to HH -- a more laid back trip with time to relax.

Sometimes after the busyness of the WDW vacation, a little time to rest helps you feel less tired when you get home (you know, the "I need a vacation to recover from my vacation" syndrome).

Just my thoughts,

Jim

We had the opportunity to stay at Vero Beach several years ago and the accomdations were very good. However, we didn't care for the beach area. The night we arrived the pool closed at 7:00pm as a result of encephalitis being reported in the area. The lifeguard suggested we go to the ocean and when we did we saw approximately 30 sharks feeding on mullet coming out of the inlet. The next day was fine and we went swiming in the ocean; however, we prefer the west coast of Florida beaches over the east coast. It is a good place to relax after being at Disney. The atmosphere is very different. Good luck and enjoy! ;)

Vero Beach is a great place to relax after a trip to WDW. We often spend a couple of nights there when we go to WDW.

Breakfast at Shutters is nice especially if yu can get a window seat on a sunny day. The strawberry MM waffles are tasty!

If you want to try a place to eat outside of the resort, we liked the Ocean Grill. It is right on the ocean and is about twnty minutes away down A1A, I think. You go "left" out the front gate. VB can give you directions. Member Services there has a book full of menus for local restaurants.

I can also recommend the Green Cabin Room at VB for a drink or dessert. It is above the lobby and has windows out to the Atlantic. There are even a few tables outside on the "porch" so that you can listen to the ocean while you drink. :) They have entertainment some nights, but it was pretty "corny" the night we were there.

Enjoy!! We're going again in August for two nights before our trip to BWV and VWL.

We always like to stay at VB after WDW. It is a relaxing place to visit. Only one problem, they only have their own resturant on site. To eat somewhere else, you would have to drive a ways from the resort. The have a listing in the main lobby (some discounts are available).

on Sat, 4/14. Our family booked a 5 day stay at VB and didn't tag it on to a stay at WDW. Though we trully loved the resort, 5 days was way too much time to spend there for our kids (DH - 12, DS - 9).

We definitely loved the resort, but feel that it would have been more enjoyable as a shorter stay after WDW. We ended up heading up to Kennedy Space Center for a day, as well as spending DD's b-day at Universal (a bit of a long drive, but the kids opted to get up early to do this). We also went on an Indian River Lagoon tour at a place south of VB (can't remember the name). We saw an alligator, several dolphins, a manatee and loads of birds. Well worth the money.

The pool area was great...open until 10 pm every night we were there (the slide is closed at 6 pm when the life guards leave). Be sure to be down by the pool around 8 am so that you can get an umbrella table and chairs. People mark their territory early in the am. If you don't mark a spot, you'll lose out if you're late risers. The prime spots go real fast.

Our family really enjoyed the beach...no sharks sited the entire stay. DH & DS had a fabulous time riding the waves in the ocean, though DD also liked the west coast better. She opted to spend most of her time in the pool.

As for food...breakfast at Shutters was great; lunch at Bleachers by the pool was fabulous (love those margaritas); appetizers and desserts in the Green River Room were fabulous. Dinner at Shutters was good, but not to our kids taste so we ended up not eating there more than once for dinner. Didn't feel like dressing up to eat at Sonya's so we never went there.

The kids enjoyed the campfire, funny songs and smores. DS went to the Unbirthday Party which is advertised for kids up to 10...don't recommend it for any child over 7. We weren't there on the weekend, but would have loved to have gone to the Sat am Character Breakfast or the Round up/Cowboy night that is held on Saturday evening.

Go and enjoy....

Dream it and you're there!

Our family really enjoys Vero as well. We have young children, and they love being at Vero after being "stroller bound" at WDW for a few days.

We travel from Michigan in March to Vero so we mostly enjoy the sunshine at the pool. There are various activites everyday planned for children and a few for adults.

If you are there on Sunday, we would also recommend the brunch at Sonya's. We did this last month and really enjoyed it.
