vero beach question/info??

Hi we're visiting VB in sept 08 for the 1st time and i have read all i can about the resort on here since we booked in Feb - i love all the pics people leave and they are really useful for building up a mental pic of what to expect... THANKS everyone for all the info pics so far.... We have been to WDW 9 or 10 times and as this is our first stay a little further afield i have a few questions i havent been answer myself from info / pics posted. !st our son who will be 13 is looking forward to the jet ski's but i havent seen any pics are these still ava and on pics of beach i have seen dont recall seeing them at all when you see a long shot of the beach you see no sign of them - are they still ava and how far do you have to travel to hire them? there still on the price list i saw posted??? 2ndly what should i pack - we always find WDW quite casual which we love but dont know if we need something a little more dressy for while we are there????? We are staying 5 nights then on to SSR for 14 nights, at VB we dont plan on doing much other than chilling we arehoping we can really stay at the resort most of the time and i understand thats theres not a lot to do in the area, were you able to stay that long with out venturing of the site - food entertainment or do you think we will need to venture?? How far (we will have a hire car) to local food/ restaurant /thngs to do if need be??? Look forward to your replies and any other info tips people may have

2 Jet Ski's are definitely available for rent. Your 13 year old is not old enough to ride alone.

pack any beach/pool atire you have. If you are driving, consider a beach umbrella, beach chairs, beach cooler, kids beach toys, etc..

The dining options are: Sonyas which is probably comparible two a 2 TS meal at WDW. Shutters is a normal TS restaurant that offers charcter dining on Sat. mornings (ADR suggested). Bleachers is the pool carry out that is comparible to Hurricane Hanna's at Stormalong Bay at BCV. There are plenty of dining options outside the resort that are easy to get to. Probably most are within a 10 mile radius from the resort.

Consider visiting Kennedy Space Center. It's about an hour drive north on I-95.

thanks for your reply mikeandkarla cant wait to go - will just pack a range of clothes i think just incase (always get wrong for over packing anyway lol) - DS will go on jetski with his dad i will watch from afar.... not my thing but they both own motorbikes so will love the jetski.

I did a split stay at VB and SSR this June and it was very nice. I liked Vero a lot. The beach is small but nice. It is a grainy type of sand with a lot of shells. There is also a hobie cat for rental and a big pantoon like float that they will attach on the back of the jet ski. We bought a small beach chair for 10 bucks at the local super walmart, but I actually ended up renting the chaises and umbrella because it was so much more relaxing.

Your son can walk up to Eb and Flo's anytime and get a basketball, soccer ball, and a football (I think). You can also get tennis rackets and balls and reserve a court. When you check in they have a list of all age appropriate activities and there are plenty for teens. You can get two movies every night free of charge for DVC members.

The resort is very small and it is so easy to walk to everything. It is such a relaxing place that I almost wished I had gone at the end of my Disney trip.

When you check in they will give you a map to the most popular local attractions and stores. The pizza place within walking distance to the resort was resonable and the food was fine. The superwalmart is fairly close and we stocked up on groceries there. Anything you need in the way of beach toys will be there.

We did drive into the business district of Vero one night and ate at a chain restuarant (Ruby Tuesdays). I thought that was a bit far of a drive and I wouldn't do it again, but I knew my teenage kids would like the food.

I think you will have a great trip. I loved Vero and will definately return in the future.

P.S. Your drink mugs can be used at both resorts - SSR and VB so I think they are wise choice for someone staying as long as you are.

thanks for that MEK...... we to are doing VB before SSR - DH wanted to do it that way as been to SSR before and know we love it he was a bit conserned we would be leaving ssr after 2weeks to go to somewhere we may not like,,,, although im sure we will love it for our 1st time he prefered to do it that way around - i have to admit i would have booked it the other way had he not expressed his conserns lol....... anyway we are counting down the days cant wait whats a hobie cat???

A Hobie cat or Hobie is a sailboat that rests on 2 pontoons and the occupants sit on a flat surface that looks like a tarp. The cast members who work in the beach area will take people out on the hobie cat, jet ski, or that other float thing I mentioned that they attach to the back of jet ski. That looked really fun. It was the shape of a rocket and looks like it holds a bunch of people. There was always someone out and about in the ocean. The cast members look quite capable of handling/supervising the water sports. I suspect they start at 10am and close down at 5pm. They begin setting up the chairs/umbrellas around 8am.

Have a great trip! I wish I could go again!

BTW - they also offer snorkling and scuba diving in the pool at designated times.

My husband and 15 yr old rented one in June when we were there. They had a LOT of fun. My DD wanted desperately to "drive" but DH wouldn't let her. They were warned that all turns had to be very slight or it would roll over.

If I remember correctly it was 60.00 for 30 minutes and we are members.

As far as clothes I wear shorts, nice pair of TEVA flip flops and a nice hawaiin shirt to even the finest of restaurants (Ocean Grille and others), t-shirt and shorts to Squid Lips and other low key places. Get the point very very relaxed!!!!

What are the chances that we may get a Vero Beach reservation for June at the 7 month mark? How long a drive is it from WDW? Would a 9 and 6 year old enjoy this?

If we get get a reservation, about how many days should we plan to stay?

We have never had a problem getting a reservation for June at the 7 month mark. Have done it 5 times in the past. Enjoy - Vero is wonderful - so relaxing.

BTW- I will be calling at the June 7th month mark this year as well. Race ya

From WDW it is about a 90 minute to 2 hour drive. We have never been there over a weekend - but I think they have more activities. Not positive.

During the week it is nice - a few activities, not overly crowded - although the pool seems crowded. But then again it always seems crowded to me.

Have a great time. Like I've said a million times - Vero is wonderful.
