Hoping some folks can help me out. I'm beginning to plan a one week family trip to WDW (4-5 days) and a beach resort (2-3 days) in Oct 2002. I'm interested in finding out more about Disney's Vero Beach resort. There will be my DD, myself and DD 6 and DS 3. I'd be interested in renting points, but wondering if this is easy to do? If not, do they offer any good discounts? Also wondering if it would be wise to do the beach thing at the beginning or end of a WDW trip. Also, is Oct a good time to do a beach trip? Please help with any info as I don't have many details (and I love to plan!). Thanks, Jo

We will be spending 5 days at Vero Beach in Oct. 2001 with 2 days at WDW at the end. I'll try to remember to let you know about the weather, etc. when we return! We've been to VB in June twice and always did it before WDW--not sure why--and it worked out great. I know others might like to have the relaxing part at the end of the vacation, but we rested up BEFORE the activity of WDW. Overall, we loved VB---needless to say since we're OKW members and are going back for our 3rd trip to VB!!!

If you go to dvcmagic.com and click on resorts you can get some basic info and pictures.

We have usually done Vero Beach at the beginning of our vacation. I have found that it is a nice way to unwind and relax from my hectic life. Plus, the kids may enjoy it more knowing they still have WDW to look forward to. I know others who insist that adding Vero onto the end of the trip is the way to go. The prefer to unwind after WDW and prior to the trip home. I am sure either way would work out fine for you, though! Vero Beach is one of my very favorite places to go. :)

We have been to VB twice in October. Once before WDW and one time after WDW, each time for 5 days. We preferred visiting VB AFTER WDW because it was a perfect way to unwind from running through the parks. The kids keep very busy at VB with activities almost every hour of the day. We love it there in October. The beach is warm and the weather is great! Our kids (7 and 4) had a great time in the ocean and the pool and loved the campfire at night. You will have a great time.

We used points each time but thought of using cash ressies because of the 25% discount.

Disney's DVC Resort is just fabulous and laid back. Actual ocean views from your room may be difficult to come by. There is a protective dune that makes seeing the ocean difficult except from the Cottages and most of the Inn rooms. If possible request is for Ocean VIEW or better yet as for a direct ocean view (yes, there is a difference). Note you will not see the ocean from the ground floor because of the dune.

DVC Vero has a nice pool area. At the beach you can rent umbrellas, beach chairs and jet ski They often have some fun things to do like nature watching ( manatees, dolphins and turtles), kayaking on the intercostals waterway( fishing and sight seeing), Mel Fisher's treasure museum looks an interesting half day, they run excursions to Kennedy Space Center, organized "teen nights out" where they take kids bowling or Pizza and a movie. I would suggest too call a few days in advance to check on their VB activities schedule. To find out what is schedule call Eb & Flo's (the activities location there) to make your reservation.

You might want to try to rent a bicycle and ride the "jungle trail" along the nearby river. It is a very old, unpaved road, with swamps, old orange groves, and new condominiums under construction. Beautiful views and very old Florida. Eb and Flos can give you a map and tell you how to find the trail.
One of the best places at VB resort is the Green Cabin Room on the upper level. We had dessert there one evening. They serve themed drinks, specialty coffees and their own micro brewed beer. Dinners in Shutters and the breakfasts are very good. Shutters has some less expensive selections than the other on site restaurant (Sonya's). Shutters serves Pizzas, Pasta entrees, seafood, steak, prime rib, meatloaf and Conch Fritters. Sonya's serves fine steaks and chops.

DVC_Smiles did a GREAT job of describing VB. I will just re-emphasize what I also enjoyed. The Green Cabin is AWESOME. It's got a terrific view and good food (if you eat lunch there). It's probably one of my favorite things to do at VB--just sit and watch the waves. Also...Shutter's was delish for breakfast and dinner. They have super yummy omlettes with the cute Mickey Mouse face butter for your bread/muffins/etc...Even if you are health conscious like myself and try to avoid lots of fat, it's fun to see them at the table! :D

Also...we like going to VB BEFORE our WDW trips. I say this because it gives us something to look forward to...we can relax at first and then gear up for the hustle of the parks and WDW. Either way, it will be a blast for you!!! Enjoy VB!

:)
