We have a 7 day trip coming up in a Beach Cottage at VB. We have a few questions that we are hoping the experts here can help us with.

1) Is there direct beach access from the Beach Cottages or do you have to access the beach from the boardwalk over the dunes?

2) I have heard there is a Walmart close by. Is it a Super Walmart with food and alcohol? Can anyone give me directions from the resort?

3) Is there a height requirement for the water slide at the pool?

4) Anyone know the prices for chair and umbrella rentals on the beach?

5) How about prices for bike rentals?

Thanks in advance for any and all help. We leave the 30th barring any storms.

1. Officially no.

2. Its a Super Wal-mart. Take a right out of the resort. Take a left at the red light. Take a right at the next right light. Its maybe 10 minutes up the road on the left.

3. Not sure.

4. Its like $22.00 per day for 2 chairs and one umbrella. Can't remember exactly.

5. Not sure.

Dave,

I really only know the answer to your first question, we stay in April in the Beach Cottage which the last one to the north. While there isn't a official entrance to the beach, there was a path cut through so you could access it. I don't know what people here will say, but every morning the landscape people were out front of our cottage and the first day they pointed out the path so I guess it was alright to use it.

Also enjoy the restaurants located in Vero Beach. Great Mexican Food! All sorts of interesting places to dine.

The chairs and umbrellas are pretty expensive. We were there in August and paid $48 plus tip for 4 chairs and 2 umbrellas. This was just for one day!

We recently dined at Squid Lips (formerly Fins) on Route 1 just beyond Captain Hiram's (which we also like). It was excellent with a view of the Intercoastal on three sides. The fish was very fresh. We especially liked the Grouper Fingers appetizer. There was a booklet in the room at VB with a coupon for this appetizer free. It was a $7.99 item and worth every penny. ;) The service was also very good. We will definitely go there again!!

There is no height requirement on the pool slide that I saw posted. I saw some pretty little ones going down it.

The chairs are expensive but comfy. We rented 2 chairs, umbrella and a boogie board for somewhere in the range of 34 dollars.

As they have big problems with erosion and there's a lot of new plantings on the dunes I would recommend going round to the boardwalk (it's only a few minutes walk)

This week we saw really tiny tots going down the slide, so even if there is a height requirement it can't be very tall....

I've got the rental prices at home (at work now) I'll post them this evening.

Ay Jalisco had good mexican (opposite the Wal-Mart)
Sake had a great lunch box with sushi & teriyaki
Capt Hirams is a fun place and on Sundays the Sand Bar next door is hoppin'
Lemon Tree was nice and restful, not a family place though. Next door is a great Ice Cream place!
The desserts at Shutters are great! The ribs were too.

They have a book in the lobby with restaurant menu's so you can see what looks good before you venture out!

We love Charleys South Beach about 15 minutes south of the resort on A1A. Kids menu, lots of choices, hugh salad bar and prices are resonable. We have eaten there 3 times over the past few years

My 3 year old grandaughter who is small for her age was able to go down the slide. I don't think they have any restrictions. Other small children were using the slide.

Thanks, that is just what I wanted to hear. My now 3 year old son has been going down the big slides since he was two. He is a good swimmer and just loves it. He has been dissapointed other places when the resort/theme park has height limits. Most have 42 inch limits and he just falls short at 41 inches. Glad to see we won't have to tell him he is too litttle.

One of the places we go to everytime in Vero is a Mexican Restauant called "Aye Jaslisco." They have 3 restauants in the area. I believe the 2nd one they built is the nicest. The newest one is small and I would stay away because of the waiting time.

Over the weekend I will check a few other places in my notes at home.

Have a great trip.
