Are they evacuating everyone from vero beach? I hope eveything goew ok this weekend for flordia. Patsy

The calls left on my answering machine from member services today - informing me that my reservation(s) were cancelled - said that Vero Beach was under a mandatory evacuation order, and that they would not be accepting any check-in's this weekend.

I just posted this on a previous thread.
I have a BIL, SIL and 2 nieces who live in VB. I spoke to them last night and most businesses were closing at 1:00 PM today. My SIL is a bank manager and she was leaving after the bank closes today, packing up the family and driving to her sisters in Orlando. They were out of lumber last night and they were unable to get their windows boarded up. They happen to have one of a handful of homes that have a hurricane shelter that was built back in the 1950's but didn't want to ride it out there. They said they were beginning evacuation last night on what they call the island, which is where Disney is at. Let's hope it ends up like Floyd and misses them but it certainly doesn't look like it.

Yes, the area where the resort is located is actually a barrier island. These areas are particularly vulnerable and are evacuated first. Protection of people's lives and homes are more important than the Disney resort but I sure hope it doesn't suffer catastophic damage. They've invested a lot in building it strong -- let's hope it doesn't get tested.

I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and am all too familiar with the effects of a hurricane. I hold my breath every year from August until the end of September! I wish the best for the folks in Florida. I am planning to take my children to VB for the first time next June at the end of our annual WDW trip. I hope the resort doesn't suffer too much damage.
