Due to the storms in fla I decided to just "call ahead" for our Oct 2-9 reservation at vero beach. I couldn't get through. I got a recording saying to call cro. I called them and they said VB is closed until Sept 30. That seemed a little to close for comfort so I called MS and they said that VB is closed until Oct 17!!! No one has ever contacted us to tell us to make other plans. When I tried to make other plans through MS they were originally not very helpful. Everything was full!!! My second attempt withMS was much better....we at least got half of the week at OKW and the other half at the Poly....however it's going to cost us ALOT of extra points. They said I could cancel and roll over my points if I wanted. That's not the point. I have plane reservations, time off from work, a rental car, our daughter meeting us from out of state, etc etc......I really feel they should have atleast met the same point usage

Hello, and welcome to the DISboards! Sorry an act of God is putting you in a bind, enjoy your trip.

What size accomodations did you have booked at VB?

I would watch this board and other Disney sites carefully over the next week or so. There is a posting on this board today that says that Vero may open as soon as next week. Perhaps you'll be able to keep your Vero reservations.

There is a post on this board that says that as of today, DVC is taking reservations for Vero from 10/01 on. You might want to call back and reschedule your Vero vacation if you have your heart set on a beach vacation.

Here's the info posted on the member site:

Thank you for your many phone calls and well wishes as Florida continues to recover from Hurricane Frances, which made landfall on the state's east coast.

The Walt Disney World® Resort safely withstood the impact of the hurricane, maintaining power throughout the course of the storm and sustaining only minimal damage. All theme parks and operations at the Walt Disney World Resort are open and fully operational.

Disney's Vero Beach Resort sustained limited structural damage as a result of Hurricane Frances. Power, water and phone service have been fully restored to the property. Disney's Vero Beach Resort remains temporarily closed as recovery work is completed to ensure that your next visit delivers the magic that you've come to expect from your Disney vacations. Once a full assessment of the damage is complete, we will determine our operating schedule as soon as possible.

Members who have Disney's Vero Beach Resort reservations for stays through Sept. 30, 2004, are being contacted with the opportunity to transfer their reservations, rebook for future dates or cancel their reservations without penalty.

We will continue to share updates as they become available, and we look forward to welcoming you home again soon.

I was told that Vero was not accepting NEW reservations prior to 10/17 but they have yet to cancel anyone 10/1 and beyond. Rumors are looking like they will be open sooner rather than later.

HUGE SIGH OF RELIEF

Talked to MS today as we were checking in right around their last projected open of 10/17 and she said they got a memo this morning to start taking ressies again for 10/01 so all is better. Thanks for the update!

I talked to CRO later tonight as we had cash ressies too and another CM confirmed it too. The one from this afternoon from MS clearly understood I needed to find an alternative solution if there was a chance we would not get in and she was very confidant that they will be back in full swing on Oct 1st. She said they had LOTS of help and everything was going very well. I paniced at first a week or so ago then the voice of reason said why are they cancelling prior to Oct 1st but no more ressies and no resort being open till Oct 17th? I think they were using that as a buffer just in case power, water, etc didn't come back till later. Also, maybe initial plans were that they could handle some guests just like they shuffle people around during rehabs so if they stopped new bookings then maybe they could handle what they already had. I would call MS in the am and see if you can get a better answer. Good luck.

I'm paying very close attention to the situation, too. I have ressies for Oct. 1st-6th. I haven't gotten any phone call yet to tell me I can't go there. After spending a week here in Orlando already, I have to say that I wouldn't mind spending more time here in another couple of weeks! How bad is that?! I'm just having a great time...

Sherri :)
