Vero Beach Chair Exchange

I am arriving at Vero on 8/14 for five nights. I wondered if anyone going the week before or after would like to share the cost of purchasing some beach chairs at the local Wal-mart and share? I would be willing to call the resort and find out where they could be stored while waiting for the second party to pick them up.

I was inspired while reading the christmas tree thread! I thought if we can do it with Christmas trees, why not beach chairs??? Hey, maybe they could be come the DVC DIS chairs!!

Sorry I can't help you, but I just wanted to say that is a good idea! We were at Vero for the 1st time on July 2nd and 3rd. I was naive and did not realize that we had to "rent" the beach umbrellas and chairs ($28 for 1 umbrella and 2 chairs). When I found out (can't say I was surprised), we drove to Walmart and bought a cheap umbrella and chair for about $12. It was not nearly as deluxe as what Disney offered, but it served the purpose just fine, and we packed it away for our next trip.

I saw a number of larger groups that had Disney umbrellas and 5 or 6 chairs. I guess I am cheap, I cannot see spending that kind of money to rent! It is nice they provide it for those that want to rent.

I have to say we loved Vero! Our kids can't wait to go back. Even being there the weekend before the 4th, it did not feel crowded. We were very impressed!

How did the cheap umbrella do? I have one here that I am thinking of just taking as a carry on boarding the plane. I packed a 'Neat Sheet' last time to sit on and that worked fine, but I need shade!

The cheap umbrella worked fine. We dug a hole and buried it, so it was secure. It was not as tall or as big as the ones Disney had out, but it worked just fine for what we needed. I am not very picky, just wanted a place to sit and get out of the sun.

I had a beach umbrella in the closet at home. I forgot to pack it. So now we have 2!

The neat sheet is a great idea. I have never used one. Does sand stick to them, or do they stay clean? We had beach towels, and came home with sand on almost everything!

Dry sand doesn't stick, the wet sand can stick, but once it dry you can just brush it off. We carry one of these Neat Sheets in our car all the time for when we pick up DDs at the pool. We shred it across the seat so they don't get them wet.

It packs very easy in the suitcase. We used ours at HH when we were there at the DVC resort. We hadn't planned on it because (silly us) didn't realize you had to pay to use the chairs at the beach (too use to going to Castaway Cay on the Disney Cruise where you just go find a seat). Since we keep one in our car, DH just went and got it for us and we had a clean spot to sit while the kids played in the sand.

I'm not sure on this, but I think the umbrella people at Vero are independent contracters, and not related to Disney at all. Maybe those who are familiar with Vero can let us know for sure.

Cruelladeville is correct. Disney has no official part of the beach activities. (However they obviously have input to SOME extent if members get a discount on chairs, umbrellas, jet-skis, etc.)

TammyAlphabet....What a great idea! I wish I hadn't just been to VB in June or I would definitely take you up on this idea! As it was my best friend lives in Vero Beach so I just borrowed her beach chair but having one to pass around like the tree would be GREAT!

We'll be there July 31-August 5 and would be willing to start the exchange if Vero would accomodate us, but we need some inbetweeners!

I will definitely get right on this, I was going to call today but ended up being out all day today. I will call tomorrow and find out if there is any storage capabilities.....There has to be, people ship packages down there to pick up when they arrive, so they have some place to store those. I will find out about this and post soon.

How will we go about sharing the cost? I would definitely want to pay my share of the cost but since I am new at this, I am completely open to suggestion? By mail I suppose.

I will post again after I have called the resort.

Hey - my kids and parents (not me due to employment will be there aug 7 - 12 and I'm sure they'd like to join in! If you find a way to store them during the 2 day gaps let us know!

We did this. We purchased walmart beach chairs and simply gave them to someone as we left so they could use them, hopefully a little pixie dust for them. I don't know if they passed them along or not. Perhaps if enough people just did this, there would be a regular inventory of beach chairs floating between people.

Cheap umbrellas work fine, very nice at the beach.

I spoke with the guest services at Vero this very day and they said that they have a luggage storage area where the chairs can be stored until the next guest arrives. Just like the Christmas Trees on the DVC board.

BNLBEBE will purchase the two chairs and umbrella at Walmart or whereever and email both me and KLR-WLV and we will send her a fourth of the cost in the mail by check, How does that sound? If you have an easier way to do it, please let me know, I am open to anything.

As you check out of the resort, you ask the front desk to store the stuff in luggage storage and ask that the next users name, which I will email to you, to be attached for pick up when they arrive.
