VERO BEACH 2016 Information & Adoration Thread

We were just discussing our upcoming stay at Vero Beach and what to while we are there and talked about maybe visiting an orange grove. Has anyone visited any of the orange growers in the area? I would love to hear about them!

Does anyone know when the renovations will be complete? I am interested in booking a stay November 28th.

We have visited Countryside Citrus, http://www.countrysidecitrus.com, and you drive through the citrus groves on the way to the store, but I must say that with the citrus greening disease that is attacking all of the trees it is not that exciting driving through the grove. It's actually depressing, nothing like the California citrus groves you fly through on Soarin

Do you need to be a DVC member or just staying on points to receive the DVC discounts on rentals and free perks like movies? We are not members but will be staying with my in-laws points. Last year-in Disneyland we did not need to be members just showing our room card which stated we were staying on points got us all the discounts which was a nice perk we didn't expect at all! So I wasn't sure if all of Disney was the same. TIA!

Thanks! I had no idea that there was a disease affecting the oranges in Florida!

Actually, that is not supposed to happen - you were lucky. Member perks are for the actual renters only, not renters.

I'm staying at VB next week. Does the resort provide beach towels for us to use? I know that we had them at HH, but I wasn't sure about VB.

We stayed at the villas and there were towels provided in the villa. You were able to exchange them for new ones rught by the pool.:thumbsup2

Hello all, I haven't posted in a long time but we love Vero Beach and have been to the resort 4 times. We are thinking on buying DVC (we've always used our other points but would like the 11 month booking). Are there any major pro and cons you could share?

I'm not sure this is the right thread to be posting this but I wanted Vero specific. Thank you!

The main cons I've seen mentioned over the years are the high MFs, shorter contact life, and low resale demand.

As mentioned, the cons are significant, particularly if you are buying the points to stay elsewhere.

The major "Pros" are the innexpesive buy-in costs (as compared to other DVC properties) and the 11 month booking window. If you have interest in booking the cottages (because there are only six) or any room during certain peak periods (e.g. summer or holidays), you will need the eleven month booking window.

I just called VB to make a dining reservation for Thanksgiving. The CM mentioned to me that they are not currently taking reservations due to the renovations and from what he has been told, they will no longer be doing a Thanksgiving buffet meal at the Inn, nor any other buffets (I didn't ask him if that was only for holidays or things like the sunday brunch).

He also said that restaurant renovations should be done in October...

We are headed to Vero Beach from Oct 5-8. This is our first visit and we are quite excited! I was just looking at the website and noticed that several of the restaurants seem to be closed for the renos. Does anyone that is there now, or was there just recently know if the quick service by the pool is closed? The website indicates closing late summer. I am a little worried that our choices are going to be very limited...

We had such a wonderful time last weekend. I'm sure all the great things about the resort have been mentioned. But last Sunday we met the resort conservation cast member at 7 am. She informed us she would be excavating a turtle nest that hatched a couple of nights earlier. We met her and several others at a nest about a 1/4 mile up. After a brief explanation of the data she would be collecting she began. After a few minutes sifting though the nest she shouted out we have a live turtle. She did this 15 more times. Each time she placed them in a cooler with sand on the bottom. After she finished with documenting and refilling the nest she released them. Before she did we named 14 Squirt and 1 Boomer (short for boomerang). He keep coming back on each wave.

The was a weekend we will not soon forget. Love Vero can't wait to return.

Thank you SO much for telling me about this! We're arriving this Wed. I called several weeks ago and asked about the turtle walk/tour but they said the hatching season was over so the tours had ended for the year. I'm so happy to hear you got to see some baby turtles; I hope we're as lucky! Did you just ask the front desk about this? I've booked a river boat tour to see dolphins and manatees. Does anyone know anything else to do to see wildlife? Thanks so much! April

We're going soon also, so I've been watching for updates on the Facebook group. Right now, they have a set up in the gazebo where you they are serving a limited menu with burgers, chicken nuggets or tenders, deluxe type grilled cheese, spicy chicken BLT and hot dogs plus salads. The kids menu is similar but smaller portions of course. They are serving soft drinks, mixed drinks etc but you have to go to the green cabin room for frozen drinks.

From what I can tell, there's a pizza place and sandwich stop nearby nearby...like a couple of minute walk.
