I was just going to post to ask if anyone knows anything about Sonya's closing. On the website it says that the restaurant will close April, 30, 2016.
ANXIOUS to hear more.Hearing big changes coming to the restaurants, waiting on official word from Disney
Interesting. We have 2 reservations in late June. We were hoping for the Pirate Dinner, but no information from Disney on that as of yet. We have the Character breakfast booked too. Please post when you hear more![]()
Thanks for the information! Disney Dining keeps telling me there is no Pirates Dinner scheduled for this summer. We have a reservation booked for a Monday night 5pm, so hoping we are inI booked the pirate dinner for our stay in May. It's now in the banquet room and includes some dancing
It is a BBQ buffet and there are 2 seatings to choose from. 5:00 or 7:30.

If they are following thru with the focus group I attended in December, Sonya's will close for good. Outdoor bar will be made larger, and a quick serve plus family meals to go location will take most of the space that Sonya's occupies.
They had 3 plans, and every one included the closing of Sonya's.
New menu's for all restaurants as well.
Honestly, I think this makes a lot of sense and could be a real positive for the resort by providing a bigger variety of family friendly food options in the evening. As good as Sonya's menu looked (I never went because prices were too rich for my blood) I never saw it getting a lot of traffic during my many visits to the resort. The plan described above seems like a much better use of the space/resources as families will be able to just pick up a family meal as they head back to their villa from the beach or get one to enjoy poolside before the campfire sing-a-long. I think being able to do this and not have to get everyone showered and changed to dine out will be very appealing to a lot of families, especially those staying in the Inn where they don't have full kitchens to cook for themselves. The resort culinary team may be able to upgrade the Shutters menu so those looking for a finer dining option will at least have the culinary portion, if not the full experience. Burgers and other "pub grub" type items could still be available at the Green Cabin Room. If done right, the resort could see a significant increase of guests remaining at the resort instead of going off-property to dine every night. If they are following thru with the focus group I attended in December, Sonya's will close for good.
