VERO BEACH 2016 Information & Adoration Thread

Hearing big changes coming to the restaurants, waiting on official word from Disney

I was just going to post to ask if anyone knows anything about Sonya's closing. On the website it says that the restaurant will close April, 30, 2016.

Interesting. We have 2 reservations in late June. We were hoping for the Pirate Dinner, but no information from Disney on that as of yet. We have the Character breakfast booked too. Please post when you hear more ::MinnieMo

I'll be very sad if Sonyas closes on 4/30, as we check in the next day! We planned on eating there daily during our stay.

I booked the pirate dinner for our stay in May. It's now in the banquet room and includes some dancing :)

It is a BBQ buffet and there are 2 seatings to choose from. 5:00 or 7:30.

Thanks for the information! Disney Dining keeps telling me there is no Pirates Dinner scheduled for this summer. We have a reservation booked for a Monday night 5pm, so hoping we are in:)
Where did you book?

I called the resort directly to book all 3 of our meals (character breakfast, Mother's Day brunch, and pirate dinner party).

If they are following thru with the focus group I attended in December, Sonya's will close for good. Outdoor bar will be made larger, and a quick serve plus family meals to go location will take most of the space that Sonya's occupies.

They had 3 plans, and every one included the closing of Sonya's.

New menu's for all restaurants as well.

So sorry. We have enjoyed Sonya's every trip. It is a shame.

Honestly, I think this makes a lot of sense and could be a real positive for the resort by providing a bigger variety of family friendly food options in the evening. As good as Sonya's menu looked (I never went because prices were too rich for my blood) I never saw it getting a lot of traffic during my many visits to the resort. The plan described above seems like a much better use of the space/resources as families will be able to just pick up a family meal as they head back to their villa from the beach or get one to enjoy poolside before the campfire sing-a-long. I think being able to do this and not have to get everyone showered and changed to dine out will be very appealing to a lot of families, especially those staying in the Inn where they don't have full kitchens to cook for themselves. The resort culinary team may be able to upgrade the Shutters menu so those looking for a finer dining option will at least have the culinary portion, if not the full experience. Burgers and other "pub grub" type items could still be available at the Green Cabin Room. If done right, the resort could see a significant increase of guests remaining at the resort instead of going off-property to dine every night.

We are returning to VB the first weekend in July. We have stayed in a 2 BR villa, but this time we have rooms in the inn so we could be closer to the amenities. Maybe not a good idea for this trip. We were so looking forward to dinner and brunch at Sonya's. Now, it sounds like we'll be spending a lot of time in the car, since we won't have a kitchen.
Has anyone heard what the food options will be for the summer? It sounds like everything will be closed.

I had another deposit added for us onto a reservation for June 27-30th in a studio, since this may be the time we have to go instead of October.

Had to cut one day off and downgrade to a studio to make up the price difference in seasons. Hate the thought of getting a studio that is not been refurbed but I can still be happy I'm there! But on the plus side, maybe no real threat of hurricanes if we go during this time.

Wanted to note that I checked out the price for three days in a studio at Hilton Head during the same time frame and they were like $89 more I think. Wow!

Just got a call from Disney and they said Sonya's would be closed at the end of April. They offered to change the reservation to Shutters. I had dinner scheduled for May 14th @ 8 pm, so they might be working through a list of people.
