We are thinking of spending 3 nights at Vero than 4 nights at AKV. We already have ressies at AKV CL for the full week, so we would cancel 3 nights and add at Vero if available.
My question is for people who have done this. Is it a hassle or not?
How long is the drive from Orlando airport to Vero?

DH and I have done a few VB/WDW trips and next summer we're doing our second "all family" trip like that. It's about a 2 hour drive from MCO to VB.

None of us consider it a hassle at all. We do have to rent a van and a car for our family, so it is an added expense.

I was told if you rent a car with Alamo/National you can leave the car at Disneys car care center than they will shuttle you over to any Disney resort. Have you ever done this? We are thinking the first 3 nights at vero than heading to AKV. To have the car all week was alot more expensive, so we would only have it for the first 4 days. We really don't need a car when at Disney anyway. Do you think 3 days is a good amount to spend at Vero?

Yes, we have used Alamo the way you describe. In fact, that's how I got the car last year for VB. I spent 2 nights before the "whole family vacation" with a group at AKV and got the smaller car from Alamo. DH was flying in with the other family, and he rented the van at the airport.

This coming summer we're having a 4/4 night stay, but we've done 3/3 as well. I think 3 nights is perfect to try the resort out!

Thanks Bobbiwoz!! We might just give it a try!!

I did a 3/5 night stay in June of 2008. It was really nice and about 1 45min ride. There is a rest stop on 95 near Melbourne if you need a bio break. Loved the resort. 3 nights was almost "not enough". click on My June 2008 trip report if you want to see pictures of the resort.

Good luck!

We did 6 nights AKV concierge/3 nights Vero Beach in May. Just perfect!

We did this vacation combo but in reverse in June and I wouldn't be surprised if we did it again sometime in the future. It was easier to go to AKV first for us because we used the ME to/from the airport. We did 4 nights at Kidani followed by 3 nights at VB. We then returned to Orlando and spent our last night in a studio at OKW. The drive was easy and took about 2 hours each way. We rented a car at the Car Care Center for the week. It actually worked out cheaper per day renting for the week then just renting the car for 4 days. Alamo/National picked me up to get the car at Kidani and when I returned it a week later, they drove me back to OKW. Very convenient service and a very fun vacation.

Also with Alamo/National you can return at the Swan/Dolphin. You just pull up to the valet and give him the car. We then just grabbed a bus to downtown Disney.
