Vermonters Take on The World Day 2

Cast of Characters

Me 28- Anal Trip planner
DH- 38 Theme park HATER
DD8 (7 then) fearless one of the bunch…
DD7 (6 then) the princess lover

Once again at 6:45 that phone rings. DD7 was poised by the phone as I planned the night before. DD7 wakes up rolls over, gets the phone, hangs the phone up, and rolls back over. Nothing like DD8. The following is our early morning conversation

Mom: Who was that Dan?
DD7: (still laying in bed, with her head now under the covers) Mickey Mouse
Mom: What did he want?
DD7 : I don’t know I hung up on him

Yup- that’s what happened. I couldn’t believe it. We had just 24 hours before witnessed DD8’s excitement. The yelling, the OMG’s..for 10 full minutes. And this darling DD of mine hung up on Mickey Mouse????? I couldn’t believe it. All this planning I had done. Didn’t she know that this was a disboard secret? Something I learned while spending countless hours on the Dis? She didn’t care. For Mickey Mouse may be great any other time of the day, but she is NOT one to be woken up. No, she hates it.

With my head still held high, I rolled out of bed. Started the pot of coffee, and flushed the toilet. If Mickey Mouse couldn’t wake her up, that turbo flushing toilet could. Sure enough. It worked. It also woke up ¾ of the building we were in too I think!

Today was early entry at MGM. Off we go. Again, we hit the rope drop. The girls thought the rope drop was funny. The best comment was “mom, why are all these people pushing trying to be the first ones?” Gee honey I don’t know, but I hope you remember how odd it is, and not do it when you get older!.

Again, being the planner than I am, I knew we were banging a right. Yes folks, our 1st stop was to be TOT. DD8 wanted to do it, DH wanted to, DD7 and I were not so sure. Well, we all did it. And let me tell you. DD7 , she wont do it again for a LONG time! We sat- the 4 of us in the middle row. DH, DD7, DD8 and Me…no- silly I was NOT on the outside. I stated those positions from the aisle to the wall. Yes, I knew where I wanted to be, and it was NOT near the aisle! I use to love roller coasters, thrill rides etc. Use to do the Cyclone at Riverside, and the Black Widow etc. now? Well, don’t call me chicken, but I’m pretty close. More like a Hen I guess. A mother hen. What goes through my mind? “whose going to raise my kids if I have a heart attack”..yup- that’s me, anal planner, and over protective mom. So, we did it. DD8 LOVED it. Screamed her little heart out. DH? Well, he was busy consoling DD7 during the ride. Our picture was great. Me with my eyes closed, DD8 yelling, and DH smothering DD7 to hold her down in the seat, as she doesn’t weight too much and the drop/flight/drop was really tossing her around. DH? Did he like it? Well, this theme park hater that I had known for quite a few years was coming around. We walked off that ride, and we stop at the smoking area right at the exit. DD7 turns to me and says while holding her stomach with one hand and her head with another “mom, I think I left my belly up there on that ride”… she was done with TOT. If asked, she can say “yes I rode TOT” and no, she wont do it again!

From here we mosied around, that was our main goal TOT. Now we could relax. DD8 wanted to do RNR but I wasn’t too sure about it. I had read about it, how the initial take off can really jerk your head. Over protective mom coming out again. I talked her into “wait until we come back to MGM later in the week okay?” “okay mom”…as she rolls her eyes and looks at dad. Here at this park today- we accomplished quite a bit- crowds were pretty low!

Star Tours- by far one of my favorites! Did this 3 times!
One Man’s Dream
Honey I Shrunk the Audience now this I had read about, where? Here..and knew what was gonna happen- but by golly it was still a riot!
Little Mermaid
We played in the honey I shrunk the kids movie set for quite awhile.

Food? We ate at Rosies- good grub- overpriced, but quite the amount of food for the $$ so I guess it all was even in the end

We saw Mickeys Stars and Motor Cars parade which was the first we had seen. We missed the parade in Animal Kingdom the day earlier.

As time drew on- the crowd was getting full of overtired kids, and cranky parents. Parents who really thought their 3 year old could handle being up till 11 the night before then back in the park for 8, and still be chipper in early afternoon. Yes, this is what we witnessed. Even my DD’s commented on it- not the kids mind you, but the parents who were yelling and screaming at the kids to “knock it off or we’ll go back to the room”… DD8 finally said “geez mom, maybe the parents need a nap or something?” Yes, dear, you are correct. And now it’s time for your mom and dad to go back to our resort.

You see, DH is not a “theme park hater” that I make him out to be. No, really he’s not. He’s a crowd hater. He hates crowds. He hates pushing, shoving, crowds. And he hates to see parents act this way. I knew, if I was ever going to get to Disney World again- well, I had to get him outta there, and quick! Back to the pool it was. It was almost 80. WE could handle letting the kids swim around while we sat by the pool and drank our drinks. Only problem? I knew if they got into the pool, they were not going to get out for Fantasmic. I also knew that this was one show we could NOT miss. What to do what to do?

Ummm theres a problem here. You see every morning I had come up with a reason to go back to the room without the DD’s. I was putting out gifts/letters from characters. The Mousekeeping staff would set them up for me on the beds every day when they came in, and the girls would find them when they came “home”. Today, we were suppose to see Fantasmic- remember? Well, the note to the girls was ABOUT Fantasmic. We didn’t see it… Somehow, I had to get there BEFORE the DD’s and take those notes back…how in the world are we gonna do this?

Back to the pool it was. If I could get him out of here now, we could come back again! Fantasmic wasn’t going anywhere. And “theres always tomorrow”

Back to the bus stop we go. No wait again, just like this morning. Today was our first day using the Disney Transportation system, and I have to say- boy they have this down to a science!

While on the bus, I concoct a plan. I’d send DH and DD’s to the arcade, to “see if it takes quarters or tokens so I can bring quarters if we need them”…. I would run up to the room and stash the letter. Luckily for them, they’ve got a quick thinker for a mom! Good plan mom, it worked!

The kids change into their suits, reapply sunscreen, and off we go. Stop in the food court to fill up their cups and DH stops at the bar to fill up mine! What a guy- Frozen Mudslide…and they were good! We swam in the fantasia pool. It wasn’t that crowded. The DD’s made some friends, and had a good time. Until……that dreaded man opened his shop. What shop? The one that’s RIGHT outside the main building- lined up so that no matter what way you turn, your going to walk by him. Yes, the HAIR WRAP STATION! What are the chances of that happening? UUGGHH! They had asked me the day before what that cart was, and I said “hair wraps”..dummy me! At that time they didn’t have the price up, but of course, here again, I’m a disser I know what its gonna run me. Let’s just cut this quick and I’ll tell ya that $84.00 later, they both had hair wraps. Next time we go, they’re getting their hair cut SHORT first !!! Now I know, I’m complaining about 84 bucks when I spent way more on this vacation. Yup- I am! But I could see it now, tomorrow they’d want these wraps out. I had my hair braided in the Bahamas years before, and DH still is happy to tell the story about the hours I spent sitting there, and then the next day the hours I spent with an entire bottle of conditioner getting them out. Yes, I did it, and I know my kids. They’ll do it too! Follow me to the end of the trip report and I’ll fill ya in on what they do!

By now we’re all hungry again, so we decide to try the food court. They had quite a selection and the prices weren’t that bad. Typical WDW prices. We ate, and then crashed. Tomorrow was Epcot’s EE, and that meant, we were going to Magic Kingdom. The day that DD7 has been waiting for since she found out that’s where the princess’s live. She would go to bed tonight better than she had EVER before. I talked it over with DH and we decided no wake up call tomorrow- we’ll go into a vacation mode, and get up when we get up. We knew once they saw MK they weren’t going to want to leave early. I also knew that Epcot might not be their cup of tea, and they’d want to go back to MK.. This was okay with me, we’re on vacation. LOL We wrote out our postcards that we had picked up at the outlets in St. Augustine, and got them ready to go. The room was dark by 10pm. And nobody pushed the wake up call button.

Next up- Day 3

DAY 3

Brandy

Brandy,

Enjoying your reports.

As a fellow obsessive DIS trip planner, I too, can attest that it is a thankless job.

DH is so spoiled in that our trips seem to come along seamlessly but little does he know that it is my endless planning that makes this so.

I'm onto Day 3

Lyn

I did the same thing as your daughter when I got my first wake up call. I hung up on Goofy and went back to sleep! Thanks for bringing back a great memory :D

I'm enjoying your trip reports. I know EXACTLY what you mean about the hair wrap stations! My daughter ended up "cutting it out" when we got back home and she still has hair sticking up on the top of her head to prove it. NEVER AGAIN!
