Verizon WWYD

I just had to do all of this last night! Since my upgrade wasnt until Jan. and I wanted the new phone when i got the unlimited plan, we cancelled my current line and opened a new line so that I was still able to get the discount on the phone. The price you see on the wall at the store is only the price if you start a NEW 2 yr contract. By doing that, you have to cancel your number, and get a new one. So now I have a new number.
Were you still under your two year contract or was this a phone not under contract? If you were under contract, you should have had to pay an early termination fee if you cancelled before the end of the contract.

I don't think the Iphone 4 will go to $50, at least not for a number of years. It might go down to $150 (instead of the $199 it is now) until they're out of stock, but they're not going to make it cheap. Even on ebay, a Iphone 3G is still going for $300+. A first gen is still $100. It will take a while before the 4 dips that low.

I just checked the verizon website to see what a new Iphone 4 would cost me if I wanted it tonight through my discount.
Price: $169.00.

I still say it won't drop to $50.

ETA: I'm not sure what discount you're talking about, but for the general public, an Iphone 4 is still $199. (just checked Verizon online myself).

I agree it wont go to $50 but will drop some.

Its my new every two discount.

The price showing up for me online is $149.00. That's with a new 2 year contract since our current one has expired.

So we went to Verizon last night. Got to the big store nearby at about 7:30. We were 15th in line. Took almost 2 hours until we got waited on, and got out of there at 10:45!:scared1: After chatting with our tech for a while, I'm SO glad we did this. He said he goes through 2Gs every few days by watching a show on Netflix at lunch every day. And since ATT had already dropped the unlimited, this was pretty much my last chance to get unlimited data for my kid on either of these carriers. So for an extra $65 cancellation charge, and a long three hours, I'm glad I made the switch!

I went to Verizon last night and activated my DD old Blackberry Storm until the Iphone 5 comes out. I do have one problem.... I don't know how to use this darn phone! :rotfl:

It surprisingly wasn't that crowded, I only waited 5 minutes and was out in about an hour. They did say Sunday it was crazy and the lines were out the door!

So, I am playing with DD's Iphone 4 that she doesn't know she has yet :lmao:. It's pretty fun. I downloaded a few apps for her, got her set up on my Nook and Kindle apps so she can have access to the books I have. I am trying to figure out how to set up her text messaging. She doesn't have any coming in and for a teen aged girl that texts a lot, I think something isn't set up right??

Well, if this is a phone with the same number as a phone she already has, perhaps those TXTs are going to the phone she has with her.

You don't need to do anything to set up the texts.

She does still have that phone but as soon as they put this phone on her number her other phone stopped taking calls and messages. Maybe she just isn't getting any text messages. My email is set up with their I-tunes account so all of MY contacts are on her phone right now so maybe that is why??

I know that there was no way I could hook my phone up to my wife's Zune account without it essentially becoming (and thinking it was) her phone. Maybe iTunes work the same way.

I did a soft reset (turned the phone off basically) and she got a couple messages. I also did the *228 program thing. She hasn't gotten anything since then except the test one I sent but her friends probably know she doesn't have access to her phone right now too.

Dusted off my BB Storm and re-activated it for DD. Didn't want to chance that her LG Cosmos Touch feature phone wouldn't get the same grandfathering treatment (if that even happens) when she goes to a smartphone.

Since she was the only one without smartphone and unltd data that's what we did. I looked into that ghost line thing, but couldn't do it as we already had all 5 lines used up on our family plan.

Just to make sure you understand, "Android" refers to the SmartPhone operating system created by Google and is used by a number of SmartPhone makers in lots of 3G and 4G enabled phones. "Droid" refers to a line of Android-based SmartPhones made by Motorola, and yes, there's several models of "Droids" for sale now.

You are mostly right. Droid is a marketing brand. It is also one specific model made by Motorola. Droid is the marketing term used by Verizon only to specify certain Android phones, that may or may not be made by Motorola. So you can have the Droid Charge, which isn't made by Motorola, that uses the Droid marketing term. You also have the Droid, Droid X, Droid 2, Droid 2 Global, and Droid 3 which use the term Droid as the name and are made by Motorola. They are also part of the Droid branding.

Keep in mind this all is licensed from George Lucas, who ultimately owns the Droid name.

A word of warning though depending on your choice of phone - there are currently ALOT of problems with Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) (i.e. signal drops, WiFI connection issues, sync issues, contact list issues) which is currently only available on the Motorola Droid X, other Motorola Droids (Droid 2, R2D2 etc) still have 2.2 (Froyo) running and while it has its issues seems a bit more stable than the newest version...thus prompting Verizon/Motorola to halt any future releases of 2.3 on any additional phones until Google creates a patch/updated release.

This is far from true. Droid 3 is out and running Android 2.3, so Verizon and Motorola didn't halt anything. Android 2.3 upgrades are coming for the HTC Thunderbolt any day now, so it isn't a Verizon concern. Android 2.3 is available for several other phones on other carriers, and I have used it on my original Droid for Verizon for months now. It is a significant improvement over Froyo.

Any issues with 2.3 and Droid X are limited to Motorola's implementation, and has nothing to do with Google or Verizon.

I asked this on a new thread but I am not getting any bites so will ask here, too. Anyone have a HTC Trophy that can tether to their computer? I don't like the keyboard on the Vortex that I just got and I am thinking about switching out. He also recommended the Droid 2. My DD has the Charge so I am wondering if I should just bite the bullet and pay for it. Thoughts anyone??

Correct me if I'm wrong but you have a Droid, right? I have one too (the Incredible) and I'm curious as to how you find the iPhone 4 in comparison?

I have a Droid X, so far it beats the Iphone hands down for most things but the Iphone seems faster moving between screens, etc. I haven't played with it much but I am having a hard time finding things like options for different pages to change settings on that page. The text messaging is a pain in the rear, so much easier on the Droid. The lack of a "back" button on the Iphone is inconvenient too. The tiny screen is also a drawback. The keyboard works well on the Iphone but I like the bigger buttons on the Droid X. Everyone says that the Iphone is so user friendly, and it is to a point, but I had the Droid figured out a LOT faster and there is no "long hold" on the Iphone to help you with things.

Well I sure hope when the Iphone 5 comes out in September it will be worth the fact that I will only be using it with a 2GB plan
