I can't find this info on their website . We have the family share plan with 5 lines but want to drop each line as the contract (different date for each 5 lines) expire and go to prepaid phones. My daughter's contract is up Jan 8 2013. Can she keep using the line until she needs a new phone ( I know when you upgrade phones or service you extend the contract), OR do I have to cancel her line that day and have her go to prepaid immediately? Hope this makes sense to someone :)

Once your contract is up, it goes month to month. You can keep using her phone until you get another one.

Easy!

If you're going with prepaid phones, during your new prepaid phone set-up (presumably, over the internet), simply "port" the number of the phone that is already out of contract -- your new prepaid carrier will work with Verizon behind the scenes to make this happen. Generally, the phone number transfer process takes a few hours.

You won't need to call Verizon, or do anything else.

Congrats - and welcome to the world of saving some serious $$$!

We are doing the same thing. I have 11 more months on our verizon contract and my husband has 10 months. I cant wait till I am done with them!

We just cancelled our Verizon phones and got straight talk. But ... we have to keep
verizon phone service for another 2 weeks since you have to cancel on a certain date. Ours is the 10th of the month.
Make sure you call them before the 8th to let them know.

I have to wait till April to get out of my contract. I use maybe 30-40 minutes a month outta 450. so I figure i'll save big $$ by switching to prepaid, popcorn::

How is prepaid, as far as coverage, etc...? I have never looked into prepaid, but cell service is ridiculously expensive. DH and I both have phones with verizon with only talk and text (I refuse to pay for data) and it's around $90. We don't have a home phone, but we only use less than 100 of our 750 minutes per month.

Do you get unlimited texts on prepaid?

I did hear a rumor that with Straight Talk, you can only get Verizon if you get their Android based phones. Otherwise, you get AT&T or Sprint (?), both of whom have horrible service in my area in Southern California :P

It depends on what plan you go with and what provider.

For instance, PagePlus uses the Verizon network and if you have Verizon phones already that are out of contract you'd likely be able to activate them on Page Plus. If you truly needed unlimited text you wouldn't save much as their Unlimited Talk n Text plan is $39.95 per phone. If you don't use a horrendous amount though, their 1200 plan (3000 text messages a month) is $29.95 a month

We just switched my line off our Verizon plan to page plus. I got to keep my phone and just used page plus's website form to port the phone....easy peasy.
