My Verizon contract was up about a year ago, so I've been paying about $130/month for tv and 150mbps/150mbps internet. They just offered me gigabit internet and an extended tv package for $95/month (after all the taxes and fees it will end up costing me about $120/month). Now I'm having buyers remorse--does anyone actually see anything close to those speeds with a gigabit connection? We use our internet heavily and the 150 mbps was too slow. We all game, stream tv or youtube from devices, upload and download huge things every day. At any one time there may be 5 or 6 devices actively connected to the wifi. I am just hoping, if nothing else, at least we may get some more bandwidth.

So no one has this service? I was hoping to hear some firsthand experiences.

I would assume any claims (from any ISP) are doubled "real world". So in theory, your 150/150 was probably really giving you 75/75. By that token, a 1G/1G would get you about 500m/500m. Even if you only get 25% of their claim, that's still a 250m connection, almost double what you were paying for.

Why would you not get it?

Have you done a speedtest on your current connection?

I just did a speed test and got 710mps/624/mps. So not quite a gigabit but much better than 150mps. I have gotten very close to 800-900mps other times I've checked.

ETA
Even if your speed doesn't get much better you're saving $10. So I'm not sure why you would have buyer's remorse.

I've never done a speed test, I'm sure my teenager has. Only one of our computers is connected through a wire, everything else is wireless. Wireless is supposed to be slower, even at our old 150/150 we didn't have too many issues with that but sometimes our previous internet would get overloaded with too many devices (I suspect our neighbor is using our guest connection sometimes, but my son doesn't want to change our setup because he was worried that it would mess with his server). So I guess I'm looking for someone who has the service to tell me that it increased their bandwidth.

The buyers remorse is that I had to enter into a 2-year contract. So I no longer have the option to switch over to Comcast and get a new customer discount with them. I am looking for a new apartment, I was just keeping Verizon because it was easier and then I figured I could switch companies when I moved. I guess you are right though, It's faster and less money so I should be happy.

I don't like that I had to enter into a 2-year contract. Those are great speeds! Curious, when you did your speed test was it on a computer that was wired into the modem or was it a wireless device?

It's $10 less cost and faster? What's not to like? Or am I missing something?
I don't like that I now have a 2 year contract, I was thinking about switching over to Comcast where I could get a new customer discount. Plus I wanted to drop the cable because we don't use it, the only reason we have it is because when I signed up for Verizon, the monthly cost of just having internet was more expensive than a package bundled with cable.

Adding a password for the guest account should not mess with your set up. Put a password on it and get rid of the leech.
