If you're thinking of an Android phone, check out the new HTC Thunderbolt (Android platform). It was just released a few days ago, and is said to be the best phone on the Verizon network right now. It runs on the new 4G data network, which makes it much faster than the 3G network. At this time, the data plan prices are the same. Rumor is, the 4G data plans are going to raise this summer, unless you're "grandfathered" in already.
I got an iPhone last month, and I regret my purchase. I had a Motorola Droid previously, and I really miss a lot of the Android software features. Some examples:
*On the Droid, I could set different volumes for my ringer, text alerts, email alerts, etc. I can't do that on the iPhone. Drives me nuts!
*The camera on the iPhone is awful unless it's outside in bright light. I own a couple of nice cameras, but having a decent camera on the phone would be nice for when I don't have one with me.
*Androids have a great voice recognition feature. For example, you can tap the microphone icon, speak your email or text, and send it. Very easy to use. To do this on iPhone requires an act of Congress.
*Androids have a better GPS feature, with voice guided directions. You can do this through the MapQuest app on the iPhone now, but I don't think it works quite as well.
*Screen is pretty small on the iPhone for reading web pages, etc.
Another thing I'll mention just to clear up any confusion. Android and Droid are not interchangeable terms. Android is a software platform, and Droid is a particular phone (as in Motorola Droid, Droid X, etc). There are many good Android phones out there that don't have the word Droid in their name.
