What verizon cell phones do your young teens have? My DS is due for an upgrade and I am planning on getting him a texting phone with qwerty keyboard (he has a flip phone now). But I saw that most phones require a data plan of $15 or $30. Do your young teens have data plans? I currently have data blocked on his phone and am not sure I want him to be that connected. Any opinions?

DD has a Samsung Reality which looks like is now gone but the Samsung Omnia is similar. Our Reality only has a $9 data plan. Maybe they've gone up? I see the Omnia has a $15 data plan. It looks like the Samsung Intensity has a QWERTY keyboard with no data plan required.

My dd is 11 and has the Samsung Intensity. It has a slide out qwerty keyboard and doesn't require a data plan. I think it's now available as the intensity II. A friend of hers has the LG Cosmos and it is very similiar.

I just took a quick look at the Verizon website and there's several similiar phones that don't require data. I personally, wouldn't allow my dd to have a data plan on her phone. I don't see any reason for her to need that kind of access.

DD15 has the Chocolate Touch and DS15 has the LG Cosmos (I think). DD's phone required a $9.99 data plan, DS's does not. The Verizon guy said that they are starting to make phones that require a data plan because the kids end up accessing it anyway and they end up writing off a lot of charges that way. DD uses hers mostly for facebook.

I just checked and it looks like there are now 4 verizon phones with a real QWERTY keyboard that do NOT require a data plan:
LG Cosmos
LG Octane
Samsung Intensity II
Pantech Jest

We recently got one of our daughters the Samsung Intensity and we've been happy with it.

Overall, we've had the best luck with LG and Samsung phones.

Seeing your post, DS15 has the Samsung Intensity, not the LG :lmao:. DH has the same phone and will finally text with the Qwerty keyboard. The kids still seem to use the number pad vs the Qwerty though.

My dd has an LG Rumor, its an older phone with a qwerty and doesn't require a data plan. She does a pre-pay so we are limited in our choices.

My dd has the LG ENV 3, which luckily we got before they required the data plan on it.
My son and dh have the Samsung Intensity II since it was one of only 2 at the store that didn't require data plans. They are fine with that phone, but my dd wouldn't like it as much, as it doesn't have as many features as her phone. I know they don't shoot video.

DD13 has a teal Samsung Juke
DS10 has a Motorola MOTO W755

Both likes how they looked. That was it.

No data plan. But neither of them have the qwerty keyboard, so I was probably no help...

My daughter has the Samsung Intensity, which does have a qwerty keyboard, and there is no data plan required (unless they've added that requirement since we got the phone this time last year).

I have T-Mobile not Verizon but I won't get my kids the data plan. I don't even have it so they certainly won't.

My dd has a Samsung w/ slide out keyboard. We have unlimited texting, no data plans. We also have Verison. I have "governer" on her phone to limit her calls.

I have the Pantech Jest (it's only available online) and I love it. It kind of looks like a Blackberry when it is open. It takes pictures and shoots video. I have had it for several months now -- NO data plan required.

My DS12 has a Samsung Intensity and, as pp said, it has the qwerty keyboard and does not require the data plan.

Our girls have the Samsung Intensity phones and they work great. No data plans for them but they can't shoot video or receive video messages. DBF and I have the LG EnV3 but I think know they require data plans.
