Verizon Activation fee

I tried, but had no luck.

What gets me is that they said the fee was to cover the cost of helping people learn how to use their new devices. Umm, I don't need your help using my phone thanks. If they hadn't given me such a crap reason for the charge it probably would have made me less angry.

No but they were more than happy to put the screen protector on for me. That was worth something, I've messed that up before :guilty:

I just upgraded and was charged an "initialization" fee... which was NOT mentioned to me during the sales pitch. So, I'm going to complain about that!

They also charged me an "upgrade" fee even though I'd received an email that offered a "free" upgrade. We'll see if they'll waive that one, too.

They just waived $30 of the $35 for me last month. I just told the representative they hadn't informed me there would be a fee - which they hadn't - and that I had never paid a fee in the over 18 years I have been a customer. The representative put me on hold then told me he would credit me. It didn't take much.

They told me in the store I could call to have it waived. I upgraded 3 of the 4 phones on our plan, but was denied and couldn't get even 1 of the 3 fees waived. We've had 3 of the 4 lines since before the companies merged and became Verizon, so I was not happy to all of a sudden have to pay a fee to renew a 2 year contract. Or that I'm now paying more for shared data than I was for unlimited data, but that's a whole other thread...

Has any tried to get verizon to waive the activation fee?

I upgraded from an iPhone4 to a 6Plus in the Apple Store several weeks ago (My two year contract expired almost two years ago - I waited so long to upgrade because I didn't want to lose my unlimited data). I was not charged an activation fee in the store, nor was there one on the bill that I received last week (which did reflect my new contract and plan, so if I was going to be charged, it would have been on there).

DH switched phones about a week ago, in the Verizon store. We'll see what happens with regard to his the next time the bill comes.

We've had Verizon for about 8 or 9 years, and have never paid any sort of activation fee.

We are doing the exact same thing this week (going from iphone 4 to 6plus) ...I hope there are no additional fees. I had 2 live chats with verizon. Each time, the rep told me I could transfer an upgrade from a non smart phone on my plan to the phone we wanted to upgrade so I could keep the unlimited plan. I went to order the phone, and they wont let us keep it. Spoke to 2 supervisors telling them I have the live chat discussions saved...they still wont do it. I really hate Verizon!!

We have been with Verizon for quite awhile and decided to upgrade all three of our lines in store. Not once did she mention that there would be an $30 per line fee added to the bill. We upgraded the beginning of Oct. and it didn't reflect until our bill on Nov 15th. $90 extra on the bill that we didn't know about was disappointing.

We've been with Verizon for about 8 yrs. now, they charge us for everything. We have 5 lines with them, and they have charged us for every line we activated. It's really frustrating that they will pay,and give give customers better deals to switch to them, but won't offer existing customers better options or offers to stay with them!

Activation fee is for a new line. Upgrade fee is when you purchase a new phone for your existing plan.

I would guess that an activation fee is easier to get waived if they want to get you as a new customer. I have had no success in arguing against the upgrade fee.
