Verity and Simon- The day of Charley!

We were due to SW today, however obviously decided not to go. TV reports indicated that we should stay inside from around 1pm, so we didn't really want to venture out. I was pretty gutted cos it was our Dine with Shamu day and we had to cancel. However we knew there was nothing we could do and seeing the destruction that was being caused around Florida put it all into perspective. We weren't quite sure what to do with ourselves. The pool was closed so we headed over to the nearest shop to stock up on goodies, cookies, crisps etc. we then had quite a nice meal at Bennigans. But we were very subdued and it was so strange just waiting for something to happen. i must confess that I was pretty scrared cos I just didn't know what to expect.

The first storm came around 2pm, it went really black and then tipped it down with rain, lots of very loud thunder. That was it till later in the evening. We spent the day reading and watching TV, but we were very bored! Charley passed over around 8pm for about an hour and a half. It was very scary. we were on the ground floor and water was pouring in,(aswell as cockroaches.UHHH) I made Simon close the curtains cos I was convinced the window was going to smash. Things just kept slamming against the window.
We were just pleased that it passed so quickly.

It was so sad after watching telly and seeing everything that was destroyed. The next day was our last full day and our only day at MK, so we went to sleep not knowing whether we would get there or what state everything was going to be in the next day.

Verity, that sounds scarier than the day we had! We were on an upper floor at the Caribbean Beach Resort and spent the morning of Friday 13th at the Magic Kingdom. All Disney parks were closed at 1pm and we headed back to CBR.

We thought we'd try venturing out to DTD at around 2.30pm as the weather was still ok at that stage, but as we drove out of the resort the rain started to come down really heavily and we couldn't see where we were going! As it happened DTD was closed and there was a message to that effect on our room 'phone (which we hadn't spotted).

It was a bit of a scary day. We spent all evening watching the t.v. which probably made us feel worse. Apart from that, it was rather boring. It gave us a good excuse to pack our bags as we were due home the following day.

It was a very boring day!!! we did all our packing as well! i think it was worse for us cos we were on the ground floor ata corner and things from the pool, gardens etc were coming at us!!! It could have been a lot worse though!!!

Thanks for your report. We asked for a high room in our hotel this year, I don't know what that will be like if a hurricane passes by, hopefully no cockroaches though.
