We will be traveling with a 1 year old and were wondering how safe the verandah is? Are they well enclosed? What are they exactly like? This will be our first time on a cruise ship and we cannot really tell what they are like from the pictures. Thanks for your help!!!!!!!:D

I have a one year-old and have been on the verandahs (although not with my one year-old). I don't believe he could climb over the railing. I wouldn't be worried about it, and he's quite a climber.

The railings have plexiglass bolted to the inside, so the surface is smooth. The danger of a small child falling over is really very little. With standard parental diligence, I don't think this is a concern.

I agree that a veranda would be fine with a one year old. Mostly because the veranda door would be impossible for a small child of any age to open, so they would only be able to go out if you were right there with them.

I have to agree. DH could barely get the door open himself. A small child could never get it open alone.

Not only are the doors "adult proof", but there is a plexiglass covering on the verandas that mean the child would have to stand on a chair pushed up tot he rail to get over it.

About the time I figured out how to work the door, it was time to get off the ship. I taught them a lesson though.,... I booked another cruise!

I had both of out verandah doors constantly open and only let the kids out there while I was out there.

We were on the ship in Aug. with our 4 and 7 year old boys. We had a veranda on deck 7. You would be safe with the 1 year old. He/she definitely wouldn't be able to open the door and I doubt if he would be tall enogh to even reach over the verandah. My 4 year old is pretty tall for his age and the top of his head just reached the top. He kept complaining that he couldn't look over. I gold him to look through the glass. We let the boys play out there a couple of times by themself. One time I noticed the 4 year old put his foot on the top of the table and pulling himself up. I moved the table back and told him to not do it again and that was the end of it.
You will be just fine.
