I read Barb's page about the metal vs. plexiglass verandah, and I was talking to someone at DCL today about them. the thought occured to me while I was talking to "Simone" that I am afraid of heights..we're a cat. 6,and have a courtesy hold on deck 6, but we haven't decided on the metal or plexiglass. While I would love to sit on my verandah and look at the water as opposed to standing up and looking at it, I think I might feel a little more secure with a metal one...anyone else have this problem or have any suggestions/solutions? I know I don't want a Navigator's verandah, but other than that, I'm stumped. I don't want to spend the money for the thing and not be able to enjoy it. help!

I'm also terrified of heights and was very nervous about being on deck 8. However, I had so many enjoyable days and nights sitting on the verandah looking at the beautiful ocean and now and then seeing an island off in the distance. The plexiglass is nice for being able to sit and enjoy the scenery. Believe me, I examined the set up very carefully the moment we got to our cabin. It was very sturdy and I was comfortable with it the entire cruise.

The plexiglass verandahs are very secure, although you might still be nervous if your phobia is very strong. My main reason for preferring the metal verandahs is the way they are shaped (I find them cozy and a like a little extra space vs. the cookie-cutter verandahs) and the fact that the staterooms that have them are all the way aft, which is so peaceful. We take the three-day cruise, so there is not a lot of time to sit out there...we tend to pop out for a few minutes and lean on the rail, gazing out and relaxing. If you are on a three-day, you might want to play it safe and get a metal rail. If it is a week-long cruise and you think you'd like to sit out there more, then you might want to risk the plexiglass.
