Excuse me, PORT vs Starboard

Well, it's down to the nitty gritty. Finally found two rooms I'm happy with. Both on the same floor, same part of the ship. Only difference, one is Port, one is starboard.

Does anybody have a preference for Port vs Starboard (with Verandah rooms) on Caribbean cruise? (Port Canaveral, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Falmouth, Castaway Cay, Port Canaveral)

Trying to figure out which side will offer the better scenery (while in port and at sea) from Disney Fantasy! ::yes::

do you mean aft vs forward?

eta- nevermind I think I'm wrong.

I personally don't have much preference.

We are on that itinerary next month and had the same dilemma....we somehow always end up on the port side and never face Castaway Cay. But we decided it would be kinda cool to sail facing Cuba, so it's port again for us this time around.

We just did the same cruise in August and chose starboard. With starboard, we got the view of the main beach area at Castaway Cay and a nice view of Jamaica since we backed in at both spots. As well, we were able to stand on our balcony to view the fireworks on pirate night. :thumbsup2

It sounds like some people love the view of CC while others prefer not to see the commotion of beachgoers all day long.

Not sure how this will affect me though. I've already been planning stuff to do on the CC day, so it's not like we'll be locked up in our room all day long.

:moped:

We have sailed twice with DCL and both times we were on the Port side. We LOVED watching the ship pull up to the dock at Castaway Cay from our cabin. My vote: PORT side without question!

I think it depends on how CLOSE to the port and how much privacy do you value on that balcony...

If your balcony is a hundred feet from another tall structure... I say Port so you can enjoy the view of the port you are at. Starboard if you want total privacy.

In Vancouver it gets kinda complicated on the Wonder....
  • the public walkway is about the same height as Deck 6 on the Wonder. As the public come to marvel, pose and take pictures of the Wonder..... they have a great view of your balcony and into your cabin from 15 feet away. Creepy. Keep your drapes closed!
  • Vancouver has a reverse loading procedure.... they load from the STARBOARD side. I assume this gives cruisers more space at Guest Services to make changes to their itinery. It's very congested I noticed during boarding. This does not happen at Alaskan ports, not sure about other ports.

We had always been on the Port side for our Bahamas and Western Caribbean cruises, not intentional, just always worked out that way. I thought it was fine, good views of Cuba when at sea. When we get up we don't usually watch going into port, we are usually getting ready for the day. We do like the fact that you can wave goodbye to the CC staff when you are leaving.

I LOVED waking up on our CC morning and looking out our window and seeing the whole island. Then after we HAD to be on board that evening, watching the island for a bit and then watching as the ship pulls away. Loved it.

I don't know if GC is always done the same, but we were facing the island there too on the starboard side. I cannot remember which way we faced at Cozumel.

When we booked last year the agent suggested Starboard so we could see the fireworks from our verandah.

This worked out great for my husband who sometimes has difficulty with crowds/fireworks from PTSD. He could sit on the verandah and enjoy the fireworks if he chose to while the girls and I were up top in the crowd. So if there are any people in your party with sensory difficulties- Starboard.

We loved the starboard side on both of our trips. Loved looking out on CC.
