Desparately trying to decide between full verandah, navigators or just an ocean view! Please help! For those who have had verandahs did you use them much? How long were you actually in your stateroom? Thanks

We had a full verandah on our last cruise. While it is great we didn't get alot of use from it because of being away from the room so much. But again we were on the 3 day cruise. We are going again in October and chose to try an inside stateroom.
If I were to gor for 4 or 7 days I think I would get a verandah for sure.
Tip

for us, we can't cruise without one as we are so spoiled. When my son gets pooped, it is nice to be able to sit out there and relax while he is napping, or after he goes to sleep at night. It all depends on how active you plan on being with all the activities, and how long your cruise will be for.

On our first two cruises (3 day) we had inside cabins but last year on the 7 day Eastern we had a verandah. If I did a 3 day again (not likely) I would forego the varandah but on a 7 day it is worth every extra penny to us. We would sit out there in the afternoons when it was in the shade and read and it is great place for a nap.

My husband and myself had the nav's veranda on our cruise last Dec and we are going with the same one on our western cruise this dec..it only sleeps 3 people so our son and family will be in the adjoining cabin with 1 child and we will be with the other child..it is much cheaper than the reg verandah that they had last dec..they go quick so don't wait too long..if you are going on a 7 day it is a must..you can get away without it on the shorter cruises..have fun...Marianne :earsgirl:

We have been on two 3 days, one 4 day, and one 7 day and we had a veranda each time.

We use the verandah very often. Coffeee and croissants for breakfast, any time we're back to change clothes or pick up something, and after we come back from dinner and the shows for the evening, they're all good excuses to go out there. Doesn't matter if you're in port or on your way to one.

We haven't tried a Navigator's Veranda, we prefer the full open veranda with room for both of us out there at the same time.

So of course, I recommend the veranda.

We have gone on the 3 day and 4 day cruise, and have had a verandah both times. We used it enough on each cruise to feel that it was worth it. I am always up waaaay before anyone else on vacation, and loved sitting out there with my coffee in the early morning while everyone else slept in. We also used it during down time in the afternoon; the boys would watch a movie on TV while DH and I say out on the verandah. If I was really trying to budget my trip, I could skip the verandah. But if the money doesn't really matter, than I would definitely go for it!

we had breakfast every morning on our cruise last year..they have a table and benches and chairs...we had no problem with space in fact it was not crowded at all..its the only way to go..went out there every morning and every nite...it was just beautiful..Marianne

If you haven't seen all the types of rooms, I have photos on my website at www.castawayclub.com
We just got back from the 7-day and weren't in our stateroom a lot, but we definitely still found time to enjoy our verandah (an aft metal one in my favorite stateroom, 5650). Personally, I think the nav. verandahs are also really nice if you want to save a little money. On a 3-day you could get by without (and even on the 7 if you really have to), but when you're on board for a week, the verandah is a real treat for having breakfast, midnight star gazing, reading quietly, etc.

On our January cruise we had a full verandah...I loved it and was outside quite often. It's great early in the morning , or to watch the sunset.
You can be on it when you pull into / or out of port.

I am spoiled and will not cruise without one!! Try it and see for yourself. have a great trip

Ditto.

We had a verandah on our Wonder cruise and I consider it a must. Its so serene sitting out there looking at the ocean or Castaway Cay. We even had fun watching the crew test out the life boats while DS 5 was napping. Its like a picture window with a constantly changing view.

As someone else said - once you've had a veranda you can't go back! I love the time we spend out on the veranda. A great place to read, sip a drink or just watch the world (sea) go by. We've had a regular veranda twice and like them, but just tried the Navigator veranda and love it. Just as much room as a regular but a little more closed in. It has a cozy feel to it and instead of two chairs has a cushioned wood chair and a cushioned bench. The bottom is closed, but you can still see out the open porthole and fresh air comes in perfect. We loved it so much we booked one for our next cruise in May of 2003.

Definitely if doing a 7 nighter, you must have a verandah. Last week was our 3rd Disney Magic 7 nighter and we had our first verandah. We had a regular open verandah. My Brother and SIL had a navigator's verandah. They loved theirs. However, there are only 3 people in their family. I prefer the openness of a regular verandah. I loved the sun and being able to sit and see out. I loved having the chairs where at certain times of the day get sun from it. Great for dryin out swimsuits. But warning, once you have one, you can never go back to a window.

On our first cruise ever(4-day) 2 years ago, we got upgraded to a full verandah.:bounce: Very relaxing at night.:) When we booked for our 7-day cruise last year, a verandah was a MUST. Enjoyed it more this time. Had a relaxing lunch on it and just used it more. Going again real soon(June 22):Pinkbounc and would NOT be without a verandah.

Our first cruise was a 3day in an inside stateroom, our second a 7day in a Cat 7-stateroom with a navigator's verandah and our next will also be a 7day in a Cat 7-stateroom with a navigator's verandah. We like the navigator's verandah especially when the ship is under way at full cruising speed of about 21 knots (About 24 mph), because it gives you shelter from the wind but your still outside.

On our first cruise (3 day) we did the Navigator's Verandah. It was nice, BUT our second cruise (7 day) we opted for the open Verandah - now that was HEAVEN! We used it a lot. Sometimes it's nice just to get away from the crowds and noise to spend some solitary time.

We would NEVER go with anything other than that!!!! We opt for Category 6, level 5 and there are 3 of us (DH and DS -7).

Early morning room service cup of tea (order "tea for 2") alone on the verandah, while DD was still sleeping & DH was showering.....

Was it really an entire YEAR ago?!

Go with the verandah - you won't regret it!

This is another good topic to do a poll. Very interesting to see if the majority feel it is worth the extra money. Hard to figure it out this way.

Two years ago, on the 3-day cruise, we had a deluxe ocean view (catagory 9, deck 2) with the large porthole and it was fine, but decided to try the deluxe stateroom with a full verandah (catagory 5, deck 7) this time on the 4-day. Although we didn't use it more than an hour or two per day, I'm really glad we had it. Besides being able to sit or stand outside your own room, the windows provided a much better view from inside than the large porthole on deck 2.
