I know at the end of the school year it's a great time to show appreciation for the teachers....and we are blessed with some of the most amazing teachers in this district. SO, I don't disagree with the principle of the idea....BUT
Last week was Teacher appreciation week (Monday - flowers, Tuesday - soothing, Wednesday - sweets, Thursday - note, Friday - free choice.) I participated in some of the days, not all.
Now, for the end-of-school party we are supposed to send a gift cert of our choice for the kindergarten teacher. I was okay with this too.
The part that put me over the edge was the voicemail tonight about a scrapbook for the teacher. It's coming home with one child at a time and we need to do one page THAT NIGHT because otherwise we won't finish....and this mom will be driving it around to different houses to use the weekend days too. Working parents with 2 boys...some nights we're lucky to get dinner and a bath!! I think it's the one random night thing that took the cake.
In the end, we're fortunate to have such lovely teachers. I just needed to vent!!!!

) is going to cost about $40 so, maybe we're even?
I was also planning on a personal end-of-the-year gift as well.
We didn't get anything during During Teacher Appreciation Week, nor did we expect anything. At the end of the year, if a parent tells me their child enjoyed having me as a teacher , I'm happy-that's enough of a gift for me.

Telling someone exactly how to appreciate you is pretty tacky, if you ask me. And (even though most teachers do deserve a nice recognition) doesn't that requesting teacher think highly of herself-detailing her car(not a cheap endeavor at all) AND a $25 lunch!? AND telling you who to include and not to include? I think that what you did was a very nice appreciation, and how tacky of them to suggest something they would REALLY like, like they DIDN'T LIKE what you already did for them?? I would definitely NOT participate in that, (I wonder how many parents would) AND I would be looking at that group of teachers in a totally different light from then on...Some people have no class,(no pun intended!) no matter HOW educated they are...
