Vent - PS4 at Disney?

I think you guys are extrapolating things from the post that the OP did not mention. She said he is a nightly gamer at home and on vacations to family members. I'll be honest we bring a video game system with us to the families Christmas. It usually just a 3DS because I would never fly with one of my expensive next gen consoles but we do play at night after dinner almost every night. I don't have kids but I have many friends who do have kids and do the same thing. Play at home each night for an hour or two. To be honest it is no different than reading a book, being on the disboards, or facebook. It is all time away from your kids. Some people choose to do this after their kids go to bed or my one friend with a toddler does it with the baby right in front of him on the play mat. He only plays games he can pause so that if he sees or hears his son in distress he can stop the game and help out.

The OP is the one who said he wants to bring his ps4 to disney. The op is the one who said he thought the second room was for him...not them together, but him.

Again, as someone married with a child whose husband games, I understand bringing a console when you are going to stay with family, or on a vacation where you are renting a house or townhouse. There's a lot of downtime in those types of vacations. Bringing a console with you to a hotel during a vacation like disney is something entirely different.

The Op asked what person goes to disney to play video games. In answering her question, if my husband asked if a second hotel room were just for him, combined with wanting to know about wifi so he could bring his PS4, that would be a red flag for me for the vacation..and by the tone of the OP'S post, it is for her as well.

My post totally wasn't aimed at you. It was at posters who said there must be marital problems and that he has a serious gaming addiction. To be honest maybe he doesn't want to go to Disney and to him seeing his kids there isn't a huge deal. It isn't a big thing for every single person. Also the OP didn't actually say if he wasn't going to join them at the parks she just said that he asked if he could bring his system and if the second room was for him. The second room does seem a little odd but I wonder if he is a night owl compared to the rest of the family and that is where it came from. I didn't read the OPs post as her describing a husband who has a serious gaming addiction and that they have marital problems and must not sleep in the same bedroom since he asked on vacation if the 2nd one was his. I took it at the face value information she gave.

They are on their vacation now so I wonder how it is going.

He sounds like my XH. A man child and selfish. My XH didn't do this at WDW but in everyday life this was it. He felt that he gave us "our" time that he now deserved "his" time. I understand everyone needs their time but it can become selfish when it's only about you. Him asking if the other room was for him and wanting to game every night seems excessive for a married man with a child.

I wouldn't allow my DS15 to bring video games on vacation but he's never asked. DD9 has an ipad that stays in the room the whole vacation.

I didn't think it was aimed at me personally, sorry if I seemed defensive. That wasn't my intent.

While I agree that there aren't necessarily marital problems happening, there are definitely red flags for potential gaming addiction, and I can understand people's responses in that vein.

Based on the first post, they should have arrived in Disney a few days ago. I'll be curious to see how their trip went.

I hope it's okay to post a vent here.

We (Me, DH, DD , DS and my mom) are leaving on Saturday for our first Disney trip as a family. We have two rooms, the second is in my mom's name.

DH has already asked if the second room is for him. Um no, my mom is paying for it.

Just now he asked me if there's internet at the hotel so he can bring his PS4.

WTH?! Who goes to Disney to spend time in the room gaming? He can do that home. Why are we paying for him to go if that's how he plans to spend his time?

In all seriousness, the TV does have an HDMI port for the PS4, but connecting to disney Wifi is not so easy with anything other than a phone/tablet.
I brought a Chromecast with us once, but could never get the Wifi to connect.

I tend to go to bed as soon as we walk back into the room, but my husband is up for a few hours after me.
Totally understand his question, but can't he get a Nintendo DS for this trip? So much easier for our family to travel with.

My guess is that he plays multiplayer/online games and has plans to 'meet up' with people while they are away on vacation. It could be an addiction, a comfort factor if he has anxiety/social issues, or he's just not into Disney.

My husband never goes anywhere without either the PSP, The Play Station Vita or the Nintendo DS. Even to Disney. It's stress relief, and I'm not going to complain. It's no different than me having my phone to look at Face Book or the DIS while in the room.

I do think that bringing the whole system isn't a good idea, mostly because the hookups probably won't work in the TVs.

I think a lot of people are missing the main point that is hidden with all the PS4 talk. He thought the 2nd room was just for him. I'm sorry but that's odd.

Wow - I didn't expect this thread to generate so much discussion. We are back as of last night and I checked in on this thread.

I just gave it a quick read - thanks for the feedback. I'll revisit and read it more thoroughly in the next day or so. I'll update on how the trip was as well.
