Vent: Please don't stand up on the rides

I was on Everest 2 yeas ago when two 20+ year old guys decide they want to stand up on the big drop-they must have raised their legs at loading so the bar wasnt too tight. They stopped the ride so fast. A CM came up and yelled at them. She was shaking she was so mad. They kept us there a long time. I was thinking they were waiting for security to arrive but when we got back to the station the offenders just jumped up and ran off. I hope they caught up to them in the park and kicked them out.

So true! My boyfriends brother is like this. Let's just say he is not my favorite person in the world. Once we were on Splash Mountain and he had been drinking and stood up on the climb to the big drop. The guy is 6'7 so it was not like they weren't going to notice. We were right by some type of door and a CM came out and yelled at him and he sat down. They didn't stop the ride or anything. Luckily our group was big enough there was no one else in the log with us. I was so embarrassed. And I'm sure he would do it again because he is just like that.

He won't be able to now. He and others like him are the reason for the lap bars they installed on Splash.:sad2:

One year my family was on the safari in AK and some guy in the back stood up to take a picture. The guide told him repeatedly to sit down in about 5 different languages! Everyone in the car was telling him to sit down! (He still didn't) The driver had to stop the car with a jerk to get his attention! :sad2:

What happens when you make something idiot-proof?

They build a bigger idiot.

Can I add on to this? Please don't pull out your smart phone and record on a dark ride, if you phone screen is bright enough to illuminate the whole area around you. The last time I rode the ToT, the girl in front of me insisted on recording her experience on her phone and she didn't turn the ambient light from her screen down. It was like a light bulb was on the whole time. It's just rude!

One time while riding Ellens Energy Adventure, someone in another vehicle, in another room of the ride stood up. That means the ride stops and everyone has to leave. We were close to the end and could just walk off, but the other car could have been anywhere.

Wow. I guess I'm lucky. I have been on rides that stopped for a long while, but never have I been escorted off a ride because someone stood up. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen someone stand up or do anything wrong on a ride.

How annoying!!!! I would be so frustrated if that happened. It's so inconsiderate of the other guests who also have to wait!

I don't know if it's true, but I read that on Splash Mountain people were doing it for kicks or because they were panicking at the thought of going down that drop, and apparently it is possible to get out of the log without getting in the water (or was, obviously you can't now.)

My daughter would have tried exactly this on her first Splash Mountain ride!! If not for the restraints that had just been put in, I would have had to lay on her with all of my weight to keep her in the car. She kept saying over and over, "Look there's stairs right there. Let me out! Let me out!" She was completely panic stricken, I've never seen anything like it. I told her afterward, "you had CRAZY EYES." 2 years later, she says she can't wait to go on Splash again. lol.

On another note. We were at our Six Flags Park last week and there are signs everywhere stating that if you line skip or smoke in the park, you will be ejected from the park immediately without warning. I loved that they posted that and I can tell you, people seemed to be really well behaved.

Not trying to hijack this thread, I think this fits in (a little) with the standing on rides.

I have been on Soarin' when someone in my row will lean 'way forward' and it scares me because I'm afraid the row could tip. (afraid of heights) Is that possible? Could the whole row come off balance and tip forward? As I'm typing this I realize it sounds rediculous but it really does scare me.

We really were that low. We had just come out of the loading area and hadn't even gone up the ramp. I could have hopped down and reached up and grabbed my son. I wasn't really mad at Disney because I know they have to follow the rules. But it sure made me wish I knew who stood up because it was crazy hot and took forever for the rescue team to arrive.

The CMs stood there and kept us entertained, lol

They should have made the moron who stood up and caused the ride to be shut down to come to your train and lift each and everyone of you down.

We were on POTC last year and sitting in the last row. In front of us were three teenage girls who kept standing up and messing around. Their parents were in the first row, and I'm sure realized what the girls were doing and yet said nothing to their daughters the entire time. Finally, I told them to sit down and not stand up again - and they didn't. Frustrating to have admonish other people's children, especially when the parents are right there!
We had a group of teenagers in front of us who kept sticking their hands in the water. They made announcements repeatedly to keep their hands in the boat but I don't think they ever really stopped. (And bonus! They took flash pictures too!)

Never underestimate the power of stupid.

I have no idea if this is possible, but now I have something new to be paranoid about this year. THANKS! :scared:

This is not possible. The computer is monitoring each row and can tell if it is swaying out of it's limits. If it were to ever go beyond it's limits there would be a fault and a ride stop would be initiated. No need to worry.

I'm sure that anger were just as much panic. I work as a ride host myself, and there's been several times that a guest has scared the living daylight out of me by doing something so stupid it could have killed them. It seems that a lot of people don't understand how heavy and dangerous these machines really are.

That's true. All ride systems will have sensors in them, that is like the eyes of the computer. It's like when you enter a store with automatic doors, there's sensors on top of the door that sees you coming and opens up to you. The sensors on the rides monitors everything from the speed to how far apart vehicles (sp?) are. If ANYTHING isn't as it's supposed to be, the ride will stop. And more often than not, it's just silly little things that'll stop the ride. Like once, a guests bag got caught in the gates before you board, and the whole ride just shut down on its own because the system noticed the gate wasn't shut properly.

I am sure she was scared. I wasn't at all critical of the CM. I was pretty mad too. I was on the ride alone but the 2 rows ahead of me had parents with small children-just big enough to ride. Couldn't these guys have fallen out? If they fell on the track could they have derailed the train?

Do you think anyone caught up to them after they ran off the ride?
